Why are so many people today shunning real medicine, vaccines etc for hoaxes and gimmicks like essential oils, weight loss powders, etc? Any ideas why so many are turning away from actual medicine?
On the old westerns, you see how they did it when modern stuff (vax, abx) was not even heard of yet.
Rest, rest, and more rest. Time. I guess you either pulled through or you didn't.
I believe there is some merit in many approaches, not just Western medicine.
Let's be respectful of everyone's views, even if you happen not to subscribe to them.
As for modern medicine - some doctors are telling their clerks to not let sick people have appointments if the clerks think you have the flu. They will give you Tamiflu and ASSume that what you have is viral. How's that for some prime baloney?

WOW, where do you live? I was unable to get Tamiflu several months ago my doctor said my overall health was good and my symptoms were mild....AND there was a shortage of Tamiflu. I'd love to know where I can go and have clerks hand out Tamiflu.

What specific hoaxes? There are known uses for essential oils.
My 75-year old mother (who holds a masters degree and is highly intelligent)— does not get the flu shot. She has chosen, instead, to SWAB THE INSIDE OF HER NARES WITH LISTERINE. She says somebody she knows, who is a nurse, told her this would prevent flu.
I do agree that these things have probably been around forever. I don’t really know if there’s a resurgence or not.

She is very amusing, and somewhat problematic. This is the same woman that endorsed "V steaming."

I mean that makes ZERO sense. You can’t breathe flu into your mouth? Or touch something and touch your mouth? How often do you have to swap in order to make yourself immune?
Okay. Imma need some credentials ?. Do you have a degree in nursing? Or had a microbiology class complete?

Im still deciding on nursing vs medical.
I’d love being a doctor but it takes so much school. And I’m already 23 so I’d be OLD by the time I got done. At least like 34.
OLD at 34? I'm 54, I must be jurassic.? Funny thing is ,I still can outwork many people in their 20s. I had a child tell me I'm old and I told them "Nope, only my body is".

Well actual intelligent people have studied many of the so-called witchcraft practices you speak of and published more that one study on their efficacy.

Notice all of the Studies in these articles are done by scholarly sources and very smart people. As a pre nursing student you don't even know what you don't know and so far have only offered opinion and no facts. I hesitate to continue this discussion as I found you initial post and subsequent posts to be deliberately inflammatory so I am going to go pop come corn and sit back and watch the show from hear on out.

Modern medicine has brought us many wonders such as multidrug resistant organisms and other superbugs. Many of which are now being treated with very old school antibiotics and methods . The Amish are among some of the healthiest people around and eschew most modern medicine.

I'm finishing my prerequisites now. I only have one more quarter and some volunteer time this summer. I will be applying to the 2020 fall cycle at my community college. So I have a way to go yet. I took all the prerequisites for radiology technologist first, and then changed my major to nursing so I ended up with a lot more classes than I really needed. It all helps though.

You make bold claims about the value or lack there-off of traditional medicine. Many old texts of medicine from medieval times were considered very effective for the times. Todays doctors and nurses would have been seen as practitioners of witchcraft back in the day and we all know what happened to witches.
The best hospital's such as Cancer Treatment Centers of America incorporate traditional, holistic and modern practices to achieve optimal results.
In the hypothetical survival situation you will likely be far from a hospital or any trained medical providers. Would you know how to keep yourself or those you love safe and cared for in such a situation or would you simply cower waiting for death - which by the way comes for us all. As a pre-nursing student you would do well to pay attention to those who went before you. Oh and please learn to vet your articles so that you are not citing commercial websites as proof of your claims.
