Why are so many people today shunning real medicine, vaccines etc for hoaxes and gimmicks like essential oils, weight loss powders, etc? Any ideas why so many are turning away from actual medicine?

With an unsustainable healthcare system we will ALL be poor. Every single one of us. Except for maybe some rich republican politicians

I was being sarcastic but if you think it helps your argument, bless your heart.

People love to bash my ideas but I don’t see any other suggestions. Just a bunch of negative Nancies.

OP, I agree that your ideas are disgusting. They have no place on a professional nursing website. Please....stop.

How does one get a mod to come to a thread? Asking for a friend. ?

Utilize the triangle with the ! to report posts that have TOS violations is one way. I’ve used it to request posts be moved to a more appropriate sub forum- the school nursing forum tends to see a lot of posts from students that would see more relevant responses in one of the student forums. You can also ask general questions in the help desk forum.

What is wrong with this idea? It would improve homelessness and over population in America. You can’t have both single payer healthcare AND treat every thing for everyone. Sterilization is easily performed and can be reversible.

Good solution! "See, I told you it was reversible after you get your act together. Now that you are clean and sober and a contributing member of society, we will just reverse that little ole sterilization procedure."

Later: "Yeah, I forgot to tell you that they aren't all reversible. Oopsie woopsie! Giggle giggle! Sorrys about dat!"

It’s not painful, and not harmful to the person. Seriously, what are the downsides?

Really? You ever had a tubal ligation or a vasectomy? Come back and tell me if it's pain free.

As to not harmful, currently there is no procedure/drug regimen that is without risk of harm.

Well when you weigh the cost and the benefit to society it seems pretty heavily leaning towards sterilization. How many unwanted births would it prevent? Maybe a few of the procedures would not be reversible, but in the grand scheme it would be worth it. Think about the flu vaccine. Some people are allergic, but when you compare the minor risks and inconvenience, with the benefit it also is a no brainer. We have to not be selfish and think what’s best for society as a whole.

False equivalency.

Sterilization is easily performed and can be reversible. If they cannot afford to have kids, how can they repeatedly pay for multiple abortions (or we as a society)? It’s not painful, and not harmful to the person. Seriously, what are the downsides?

And I’m pretty much the complete opposite of a Nazi. I’m not the least bit conservative.

It's not painful and doesn't harm? Tell that to my paternal grandmother who was forcibly sterilized when she was in her 30s. She was harmed. So were a lot of other people who were deemed "feeble minded" or epileptic or mentally ill. They were harmed.

Do yourself (and others) a huge favor; do some research on Nazi Germany and eugenics. And do some research on eugenics in the US.

And please DO not go in the medical field. Your ethics appear to be questionable.

That’s why we elect people to decide these things, I don’t know all of the minutia but think about it- what’s worse? Bringing many children into a world with no one to care for them or sterilizing people to avoid this unnecessary suffering (and probably doing them a favor since they won’t have to worry about pregnancy getting in the way?) They can focus on bettering their situation. Ending their drug abuse cycle, building a foundation to not be homeless, etc. It would be doing them a favor.

I never said “poor people”. I said people without the means to care for a family. Homeless, drug addicted, etc.

Who on earth are you going to elect to make personal decisions of this magnitude? Take a look at the bipartisan rogues' gallery currently on display and please point to the person whom you think capable of wielding such power without being absolutely corrupted by it.

No, you don't know all the minutiae; no one can. What would you think of a computer algorithm that decides such things? What if it decided that your particular attributes were not parent-worthy? Would you still be in favour of such a system?

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't actually a troll.

For someone so adamantly against religion you sure seem to think someone needs to play God.
