Why are so many people today shunning real medicine, vaccines etc for hoaxes and gimmicks like essential oils, weight loss powders, etc? Any ideas why so many are turning away from actual medicine?

I’ve never heard of any of those authors. I’ll check them out on my study break today.

Did someone just seriously say we should be able to own fully semiautomatic assault weapons, but IM the troll because I am looking to a solution to the massive homelessness and poverty? I know my ideas aren’t perfect but at least I’m thinking. Doing something is better than doing nothing. Can we please stop with the attacks, however? I’ll check those authors out, but calling me a Nazi is a little much. Frankly it’s childish.

Yes, I did say we should we be able own and carry automatic weapons. Our forefathers would agree. That doesn’t make me a troll, and even though most of us would say your supposedly well intentioned ideas are insane, I also didn’t call YOU a troll.

“The rights of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” - 2nd Amendment (notice it doesn’t say when people think it is unsafe or no longer want their neighbor to protect themself because they feel unsafe about it)

”What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms." - Thomas Jefferson

The different between you and me is that you want to control other people and I just want to control myself without people like you telling me what myself and others can do for “our own good.”

We have these mass shootings and you think letting people buy any sort of weapon is a good idea? I’m actually on board with people buying like.. pistols and stuff. Only after a lengthy background check and vetting period. And it should be renewed like every year or two. And after lots of education. But no one needs a machinegun. That is absurd.

No, libertarians aren't like anarchists. The Soviet Union was authoritarian. And everyone and everything were closely watched. Have you ever met anyone who lived there under that system? Ask them how efficiently everything ran. Or you could try it for yourself. Make a prolonged visit to an authoriarian-run country. Let's see, there's Venezuela, China, North Korea, Iran...

During my travels I met a nice couple that were American citizens from the Soviet lead Communist Ukraine. They certainly hated it. They were told to work on farms and had no real freedoms. They had a roof over their head and food to eat but it wasn't in abundance and were basically living in poverty. They did very well in America. I met them traveling in Vietnam.

There recently was an article about Finland being a capitalist paradise. They have universal healthcare and education, and government intervention in things but a high standard of living under the capitalist system. One can dream the US might be like this.

That's pretty much my stance at this point. Pistols and hand held weapons of defense of home and family I think are sufficient. Rapid fire machine gun type things really don't have a place in modern society.

I'll leave it at that. I think we should all just drop it because we'll just get this thread shut down.

There are plenty of gun discussions (on the break room side of things) as a healthcare issue, like abortion, and they rarely go anywhere but back and forth.

I think we're all entitled to have an opinion without calling each other trolls.

We don’t have to agree, that’s the beauty of free speech.

What is ALL comes back down to is how our ideals positively or negatively impact our patients. Are we able to be tolerant of different opinions? Are we able to accept that what someone would choose for themself is not something you would choose for you, but that doesn’t make them wrong or you right?

Life is a shade of gray, OP. I hope life experience and a softening of heart help you to see that.

I think these weapons of war will be banned soon. Many of the states are currently taking hard stances against it. I applaud Bloomberg. He started fighting the obesity crisis by limiting soda sizes along with other measures, and now he’s devoting his own time and money to helping states in getting the weapons of war off of American streets. I really wish he would run for President.

And I’m pretty much the complete opposite of a Nazi. I’m not the least bit conservative.

Nazi stands for National Socialist Party and Hitler's programs were formulated with the idea of removing "Useless Eaters." From society. Before he targeted the Jews he went after the poor, injured veteran's of WWI and persons with certain "Mental Defects."

Bloomberg IS running for President. How can you be so invested in political issues but not know who your candidates are?

I'm also baffled that you don't know ANY of the authors listed. Orwell used to be required reading in any advanced high school English class and The Handmaid's Tale was adapted into a very successful TV series on Hulu. But I'm going to guess that you're going to call TV mindless entertainment that you don't partake in.

I thought he had backed out! Good! Bloomberg for president! I don’t follow it that closely. I just know that we need to fix this mess that our country is in. Hopefully Trump will get removed from office. That will be a good start, if he wins the reelection we WILL be back in Nazi germany, with his hatred against minorities and women.

And nope. I don’t watch TV. Never have actually. It rots your brain and is a waste of time. In my spare time I like to read. I like Naomi Klein, Howard Zinn, and Barbara Ehrenreich currently.

You're not going to fix anything if you're uneducated about what the candidates stand for and who's even running. Your ignorance will be your downfall in all aspects.
