We just finished a nurse group Zoom Mtg. We were asked how we felt about taking the covid vaccine per the school Supt. Wow, didn't expect that on a Monday. The school nurse? Wow, it's like your life flashes before your eyes for the present and for the future. You think about your family, this job, and your potential risks. Risks, I barely know the covid-19 contact risks. Vaccine. What's in it? There was the trial of 40k and I think 6 people died. I heard 2 had gotten Bell's Palsy or something. I don't know enough about it. Most of us said we'll wait. I heard the White House suddenly decided that they would wait as well. Now, look-a-hear, why would they wait? They don't usually step back to let others eat first. I'm just trying to lay all the cards out on the table. Also, there was mention of us administering the vaccine to students. Students? I feel the parent should be present for such a controversial rushed vaccine don't you? What are your thoughts? Will you take it? Will it be the lesser evil? Undecided for now.

Huge thank you to your daughter!

Thank you, I am very proud of her!

Yes!! I will get it as soon as I can. I work a PRN job in an assisted living and I heard sometime in the next two weeks. Pfizer.

I also filled out the volunteer form to administer the vaccines in my county. I have not heard back yet but it is something I really want to do. I want to feel proactive in ending this pandemic.

Okay, interesting twist for me.

I was just offered a spot in the astrazeneca phase 3 trial. I've have actually jumped at it like 2-3 months ago. Now that I think I will have sooner access to either Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, I'm pausing a moment.

They do let you unblind yourself if you are offered a chance to get an FDA approved vaccine to see if you got the vaccine or placebo. If vaccine, you will also get a chance to see if you have developed antibodies.

I'm still pondering - not whether to get the vaccine, but which options I have. I love science.

Wow! That is exciting. I think I remember you're at a private school, right?  If it were me I'd take the astrazeneca because my current fear is that the private school nurses are going to be left in the dust when everyone else is vaccinated.

I’m getting Moderna on Monday. Am I nervous?  Yes. I am young and healthy and I am not worried about catching Covid. I’m not getting the vaccine for myself or even for my family. But I am doing it to help end the pandemic, and to protect my patients.  And yes, I realize they’re saying “We don’t know if vaccination will prevent you from SPREADING it” but I can not imagine that it won’t prevent it. I’m just gambling on the fact that they will discover that it does indeed prevent transmitting it too.

I'm at a public charter - so public but yet off the radar a bit. That is where I'm going back and forth on it.

Yes, I'll get the vaccine. I'm not so worried about getting COVID for myself- I know there are people who are not high risk who do very badly, but I have a great immune system and am healthy. I'm concerned about getting it and passing it on- to my husband, who is 65+ and has diabetes, my adult kids, my little granddaughter, and of course my residents, many of whom are very medically fragile. Three of our 40-something employees have tested positive in the past week and I'm so afraid that a wave of COVID would take out most of our residents. I do NOT want to be the one to send that wave crashing through, so I will absolutely get it. I'm not a huge fan of vaccines for myself- I always immunized my children and the anti-vaxxer movement boggles my mind. However, I'll do the right thing and protect those around me. Doing research and seeing so many very well-informed nurses that are willing to get the vaccine helps me feel comfortable with this choice.

I'm also so very grateful that they found a vaccine because this COVID thing is terrifying. So many lives lost and I was beginning to wonder where it would end. This should be the beginning of the end, as long enough people get vaccines.

I am getting mine today on my lunch break! I still work PRN for our local hospital and they started a clinic Friday with the moderna. I am so excited that my hospital is a vaccination site.

oops I was wrong. It was the pfizer vaccine. I thought we were getting doses of moderna. the clinic was a smoothly ran ship. In and out and next dose is scheduled January 12th. looking forward to being fully vaccinated soon before I sign up for any more shifts. Since I work in the float pool they can put me anywhere in house and sometimes that means the covid floor. I have been lucky and mostly worked the med surg floors since this pandemic started.

Yes, I will get it as soon as it's my turn - I've already signed up for the healthcare worker list in my jurisdiction, and I've also signed up to be a vaccinator.

In summary : Yes. Yes. So much yes.  HELL yes.

Looking at all the info as I know it, I'm absolutely 100% going to take either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine as soon as one of them is offered to me. I'm supposed to get my vaccine this week and it'll probably be the Pfizer vaccine. So far, everyone that I know that has had the Pfizer vaccine has not had any serious side effects aside from a slightly sore arm, which lasted about a day.

A couple work friends did turn into Gremlins, but... otherwise they're OK. ?

I plan to get the vaccine but have concerns.  No underlying health issues but my age definitely puts me in the "at risk" category.  Also, I work in a clinic for seniors and feel it is important to protect them, too.  That said...as a child I was allergic to polio and cholera vaccine.  I had a severe reaction to a tetorifice skin test (0.1 cc intradermal) that required hospitalization.  I have military shot records documenting these reactions.  Never a problem with flu vaccine.

So my plan is to take shot records to my doctor, have the discussion and get recommendations.  If it is determined I can safely receive it, I will take it in the office or ER where emergency care is available (rather than a drug store, etc.).  And for what it's worth, I strongly suspect it was something in the vaccine preservatives (back in the dark ages) that caused my reactions.
