Is this thread for real?

Mulan - Thank you!! I had been asking the same question since this thread was started. It doesn't add up, even from the poster being on both sides of the fence, so to speak, saying in one post that they were worried that they were going to be fired. They contradicted themselves saying that they didn't really like it and didn't care if they got fired or not.

I know in my postings that I am not perfect and my replies contain errors, but I really do hope that the OP does better in their charting than they have done in their postings so far.

I have never really had a problem with staff napping on the job, I haven't done it, the short "power naps' make me feel worse. Some people do better after they have had one. But we always stagger our breaks so that all the patients are being cared for. I would have an issue with a patient not getting care they needed, especially if it had been pointed out to a nurse.

Since you do not enjoy your job as a nurse, maybe you should think about changing careers. And, if you decide to stay in the health care field, please don't move to Louisiana.

In my facility sleeping on the job is grounds for immediate termination, we don't sleep at noc, doesn't happen and I doubt is unacceptable in any institution regardless of what others have posted. In looking at the entire scenario, yes you probably will be terminated, but not just for the sleeping, if that were the only issue you may have gotten a break; but to ignore your pt's needs was negligent. It doesn't seem you are very concerned since you 'don't care' and are blaming others and your being tired on your inactions.

Hmmm...If the thread is for real, I believe the OP is an aide. The OP states his mother thought getting licensed would be good since he did so well in school. All LPNs and RNs have to licensed so maybe the mom thought being a certified aide was better than being non-certified. From his post on another thread, he seeking another job and asking questions that a GN would know. So I surmise he is an aide. JMO!!!!

I think the difference here is that the OP did not care for his pt before going on break, did not inform anyone he was going on break and apparently did not even tell anyone where he was - (he had to be paged on the intercom). Working nights is tiring, but that doesn't mean you are entitled to just run off and have a nap. How would you feel if someone on Day shift just suddenly left the floor because they needed to run an errand? You are being paid to work, not sleep.

I think that pregnant nurse should thank her lucky stars that her coworkers cover for her for a "few hours". The whole shift is only a "few" hours. I know pregnancy is tough but, presumably, she chose to get that way and I really don't quite see why she should nap for a "few" hours. I could see a 1 hour break/nap. That would be her 30 minute lunch and 2 15 minute breaks taken all together. But, if I were expected to watch her patients, give her meds, on and on for a "few" hours every time she was on duty, I would not do it.

Your lack of hospital orientation doesn't make up for your lack of common sense! Geez, sleeping, personal cell use, coffee over your job?

Am I missing something here??, who said anything about anyone being pregnant or napping for a few hours ???

Should you worry?? Question better asked is, "are you SERIOUS??"

I had considerable difficulty reading your post and doubt you have a license of any sort (driving doesn't count). Are you in the United States, or is English a second language?

Not only should you lose your job, it's beyond my comprehension that you don't understand WHY. And since you didn't understand this by the time you posted this message, I'm certain I can't explain it to you.

Oh thanks, thought I read them all, that's crazy by the way, cover for a few hours?? this can't possibly be a hospital, anyway , gee I worked nocs thru 2 of my pregnancies- wish I worked there then!!! I can't imagine my coworkers being that much of team members taking over my assignment for a few hours at a time, they don't even care to cover more than 15 minutes once in a blue moon ; , and I wouldn't appreciate covering someone else for hours either, go home already

i quit today really because i didnt show up for work. just had enough. i have cna cert. the work is hard and i get kinda tired of cleaning patients up and i get stuck with older like patients all the time. why is it that when you work with some other nurses suposedly as team you usualy get stuck with all the work and they spend all time talking and moving slow. i the only guy with a couple women nurses and i did all the work. i new i was going to be in trouble for sleeping on the job because i was told on but i had already worked a 12 hour shift!!!!!

please give advice. even though i hated that job this one nurse told on me for going to sleep and i heard a rumor she was messing around with one of the married doctors. can i use that to call human resources on her. i was going to quit anyway but i hate when someone snitches like that. just my 2 cents.
