I'm sure when I worked in other places fellow employees did this too...but it is anoying to be around medical personnel who insist on daily reporting their aches, pains, and symptoms....hard enough to listen to whiney patients, but unless I'm doing an assessment of your health status I don't really want to hear about your stuffy nose, your headache, your back pain, or your indigestion. Now if because of your health status you need my help great just ask...but don't whine and make me guess what I'm suppose to do about it. If it is really that bad, go home, or call 911 and see if they'll give you a ride to ER.

Depends on the context. I hobble and limp around and thus people often ask me what's the problem. Therefore, I typically explain my situation and the reason for my strange and sometimes painful ambulation.

Ha Ha..I think EVERYONE does this at some time or another. I think I've been guilty. But I know what you mean if they keep going, and going, and going. Maybe this should be on the list of "how to annoy your co-workers". I remember a similar list circulating about office coworkers...it was funny. We should make a medical list..

Lol, because we are a battered, bunch of old bitties! My group loves to sit around and compare war wounds.

Are you talking about working with a hypochondriac? We have one of those. She has a doctor's appointment every day. Different docs.
She's so annoying I just ignore her when she speaks and so does everyone else.

A long time ago I learned never to ask "How are you?". I always say "its nice to see you".

We have one of those, a nurse who's put together with nuts and bolts, from her neck down to her knees, everything hurts her all the time.
I just compliment her scrub tops or new hair cut and if she starts talking about her pain for more than a minute (that's my limit) I say, "Oh I gotta give meds to so and so...or I got to find this patient's chart"

Well, sometimes people just need someone to express their problems to. Some people have no one else. When I worked at the hospital, we all complained when we were sick/tired/hurting, no one took offense to it and we all tried to ease each other's load if one was feeling really ill. We all just helped each other out and were concerned for each other. But we shared everything from our sex lives to our body fluids, lol. We just talked about everything.

you hit the nail on the head! at our hospital, it's justified since more often than not, we're mandated (required to work extra shifts due to all the call-ins)to death and that takes its toll after awhile!

i worked w/a nurse sev'l yrs ago, who had more things wrong with her...
she would incessantly talk about dx 1, 2, 3 or all of them, every day of our working life.
and it wasn't just me.
she had quite a reputation for being a hypochondriac.
'mary' eventually quit and got a job elsewhere.
months later, a cna arrived at work, announcing that mary had died...
from one of her sev'l diagnoses.
from that day forward, i have never rolled my eyes or become frustrated w/one of 'those' types.
her death totally blew me away...
just never saw it coming.
but yeah op, i do understand.
i've just been humbled into silence, for life.:)

I work with someone like that as well. So annoying! It's always SOMETHING. The worst part is she calls in sick a LOT. Part of me believes her but another part is like, "Suck it up and work anyway." I work when I feel sick and am in pain. Most people do. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't consistent. She's called me crying on several of my off days trying to get me to work. I used to come in for her...I still do on occasion, but COME ON.
