Why are students stealing my food?!

Published

Earlier this week a student was in the office for bad behavior (I share an office with main office), I stepped out to find a student for their meds and I came back to realize the kid had gotten into my fridge and stole my orange. I was grumpy pants but got over it pretty quickly. Just upset the student was allowed into my office and gotten into the fridge and nobody said anything to him.

Today, I got a lunch from the cafteria and a student has to stay inside for recess. I step out in to the hallway and saw this student go into my office and take some food off my tray! Caught her red handed as she stuffed the food into her mouth.

Ugh dont mess with me and my food!

They moved it to the Breakroom where it died an instant death.

I'm quite sad :(

You guys can go there and be bros.

Poor kids, you probably work with public schools just let them have your food. Don't be stingy with the children. After work go get yourself a nice chicken salad or something like that. I hate to hear people fighting over food especially in this country. SMH

You're kidding, right?

Hahahaha!!! It's your kids, huh? Feed them at home and they won't steal other people's food!!

**snicker** Don't be stingy with the children... **snicker**

Thanks for the laugh!

PS - If you're serious, you got problems. Don't teach kids it's OK to steal if you're hungry. Teach them that stealing is wrong, illegal, and liable to get you beaten up or shot in this country, whether by the person you're stealing from or by the police. Teach them that if they're hungry, they should ask for food. Just taking from other people is selfish and stupid.

Ok, I'm not a school nurse (just a fangirl minion [emoji7]), and even I see this for the complete load of bull hockey that it is.

Yes, children come to school hungry. If any came to me and told me, I would most likely give them the lion's share of my lunch. And then have a discussion with Admin about the problem, and how are we going to help these kids?

But to walk in and blatantly steal my food? Oh, Hell no, Kitty!! Nice stops right there.

That's what the free and reduced lunch program and school breakfast is for. If they asked the nurse would likely give up food. It's not about food it's about taking what is blatantly not yours without permission. So using your logic let the "hungry" public school students loose on the local supermarket to take as they please, after all "it's only food". No difference.

What if that was all I had after feeding my own family and don't get paid until the next day. It's only food, so tell us where you're working and if hungry we will just come get yours & you can get a "nice chicken salad".

Yep.

I know kids come from terrible situations. I get that. I see it all the time at my school. If a kid asks, I will get them fed.

However, manners are always important. I want to teach kids to get their voice heard - in an appropriate way. That doesn't always mean yelling and scolding, but stating that stealing is wrong, but that this school is a place you can ask for food if you need and not feel ashamed.

Usually, however, in my experience, the kid that steals food isn't always the kid that actually needs the food. Sometimes that kid that steals food steals from the kid that needs the food... :(

Honestly, I feel so bad for so many kiddos. I have the perfect case in point. I help at our local food pantry. It is ran by an older couple-- preacher and his wife. Beautiful, beautiful people. I am a better person because I am in their lives.

Anyway, we have a lot of families, that I know need the help. But, we can't even get them to show up to pick up their boxes of food. IDK if it is because some of them get so much help, they don't want to mess with it. Or, they are just too wrapped up in their own lives. There are most distribution days, that we have to boxes that go unclaimed. Makes me sad/mad.

This preacher/wife couple, both in their 80's and are going to kill themselves with all the work this requires. (They drive several hundred miles every month to get the food picked up. We don't have the luxury of a big truck coming and unloading the monthly donations) And these parents can't even have the decency to come and get what is offered????!!!! Thank you for letting me rant!!! :angrybird9: :banghead: :crying2:

I'm that way with my coffee. Touch my coffee and all hell will break loose. And I will use the residual ashes to rewarm my Mochachino.

Cami and the rest of us die hard coffee drinkers - Over the weekend, I stumbled on to a website- "Sweatpants and Coffee." It has all kinds of great quotes. Here is a sample.
