Why??? Sleep interrupted nocturia post 12hr shift...

Why is it that I can work an entire 12.5 hr night shift, not stop to pee ONCE, and then when I try to sleep during day, I wake up at least 3 times to pee?

Why can't I just come home and pee 1000mL, sleep 5/6hrs straight and then get up?

I usually drop the kids off at the pool when I make water. Saves a trip.

Why do you say pee instead of urinate?
I prefer "squeeze my sponge"

Ever ask a 98 year old if they need to urinate and they are all ?

"I don't know what you just said, darling, but I need to pee!"

Yes, I was just posting out of frustration. :)

It just seems that my bladder goes to sleep at work. I am always just so crazy busy and have barely any time to sit and chart much less stop and pee. It seems I never have the urge to go until I get home. Which is really weird since I drink three 32oz bottles of Gatoraide while at work!

Why do you drink Gatorade? I'm just curious, and I'm not urinating in your Cheerios. But the electrolytes in Gatorade...well, there's a lot of sodium in Gatorade. So you're "holding on" to liquids during work and because you have normally functioning kidneys, you're later diuresing it? I know that sounds nuts but if you're not losing electrolytes...well, why replace them? Then again, your body is probably used to the amount of extra electrolytes it receives.

On a lighter note, I have wanted to steal a hat from work and measure my output! Just out of curiosity.

Thought I was the only one......

although sometimes I just say "I need to go demonstrate one of the cardinal signs of life"

Or one of the usually real involuntary S&S of a seizure.

Maybe gatorade isn't a good choice to drink at work. I gave up soda a few months ago and I don't like to drink plain water. I need something with flavor. You do make a valid point tho. :)

I kicked a horrible diet soda habit on Dec 27. Since then, I've been drinking either water or water with Crystal Lite Natural Lemon Iced Tea packets.

A co-worker and I once held a 'how much does your bladder hold and for how long' contest. We worked 12 hour nights on an insanely busy med-surg floor. 7pm we both emptied- to level the playing field. Both had to drink a 20 ounce bottle of water before 10pm. Placed a 'hat' in the staff bathroom. Game on!

I won. I made it to nearly 3am. 460 mL

Your body probably knows your in fight mode and holding on to that fluid for possible use .....then when your body relaxes to sleep, it can let it go. ;)

Just make sure to pee before you leave work and before you punch out! haha

Crystal Light makes many flavors (just avoid the caffeinated varieties!) I used to make Kool Aid but not add sugar. My favorite is the sugar free Hawaiian Punch!
