Why is there so much rudeness?

Nursing Students General Students

Hello,

I have been reading these boards on and off for a few years but have recently joined. Most of the time, I enjoy the posts but some posters have become so ill tempered. They act as if they are superior and downright rude. What is the point? Why attack a nursing student who is posting in the correct area? Why talk down to them, as if they are small children? Or that their concerns are less important because they are new to all of this, and not experienced?

I've been reading posts about "experienced" nurses being attack by the new graduate, or the young nurses questioning people. While, these are all valid points and should be addressed, it is not only happening "out in the real world", it is alive and kicking on this board.:uhoh3:

What happened to compassion? Aren't we as nurses and future nurses supposed to display care, compassion and understanding to people? Or have I completely missed the mark on what type of person a nurse should/could be?

If someone is having a horrible day and they are venting, why is it not OK for them to vent here, with people who understand????? I simply do not understand this. I also have no idea how anyone else feels, but I avoid posting most of the time because I do not need to deal with the people who live on their pedestals and look down at everyone else. (I am sure by me posting this I am opening a can of worms)

Thank you for posting this. It gives a viewpoint that could possibly be shared by many who visit here.

I've noticed it too. And you are right, some posters are just plain rude. It makes you wonder how these people plan on being nurses and communicating with patients who have far less knowledge and much less ability to understand their medical problems and teaching.

Of course, this is an open forum, which means we basically post anonymously. ;) So there are trolls here, and the usual garbage that comes with a free for all give your opinion site.

Could you give a brief example of what you're talking about?

I've read lots of posts here, too. I've noticed that in almost every case the response is a reflection of how the post is worded in the first place.

In general, there are people who are blunt to the point it appears as rude to most people, but unless there is a clear violation of terms of service that's just part of the variety of people you encounter anywhere in life. I would suggest you use the "ignore" button for those people who make you angry.

There's an ignore button!? Where!?

i understand you hunny i feel the same some people just think they're high and mighty... i hate when people of higher levels or with money try to downtalk someone who was at that spot they used to be. u can post whatever you want on here... its freedom of speech... I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM! people are and will be rude. ..... you just do what you keep doing.. if you have an opinion voice it and speak up.... pm me ...

Nursel,

I am by no means saying I get mad/angry. This is a internet posting site (as we all know ) and I do not allow emotion to come into play. I simply made many observations regarding the rude posts. I am by nature a VERY blunt person, but because people can not see my expression or hear the tone of my voice- I am very careful as to how I word/type things.

As for an example, I will not post it in the open forum because I do not want to be attacked by them. :nono: lol

Have a great day :)

Thanks - I wouldn't want you to post anything that made you feel someone could recognize themselves. As for anger, you're a better person than I am then because there are people around here who reeeeeealllly push my  buttons.

You have a great day, too. :)

What one person calls rudeness/meanness, another sees as plain speaking or being blunt. Each of us posting to this forum, brings a completely unique way of viewing what we see. What I frequently see, is someone posting something controversial I have thought, and refused to type. Does that make them "mean" and me "nice"? I admire those posters. I bet they're the kind of nurse who looks at their pts and tells them the hard truths.

If we can only type what is considered "safe" or "nice" then this forum no longer has any worth.

Anywhere you have large groups of women there is bound to be infighting and cattiness. /runs out of thread.

I wouldn't say being aware of how my words come across as posting nice or safe. It's called respect for others, at least that is how I see it. Nursel,Do not get me wrong, they DO push my buttons. That is when I log off LOL or ignore :)It is nice to know that I am not the only one who perceives these posts and rude and such. Enjoy!
