Why Does Everyone Hate Florida So Much??

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I live in Chicago and have visited almost every part of Florida, I am actually going to be visiting Ft.Lauderdale at the end on January. I ask anyone here that has ever lived in Florida and they have nothing but terrible things to say. They tell me the schools and education systems are bad and that the majority of the population have low Iq's and are poor. I don't know why this is, everyone seemed pretty normal to me?? I would like to move there one day and start a new life with my husband but I'm worried about salary and job placement for both himself and I. Why are some peoples experiences so bad, its so beautiful and the people are very nice. I just don't get it. Can someone help me understand why this is??

Well I was born and raised in Florida. I have lived and worked in several states as a travel nurse and still I wound up back here. I miss the unions in PA. and little else. No place is perfect but I HATED cold weather enough to take a 10 dollar an hour paycut. As far a racism goes I have thrived despite racism, not because it doesn't exist. Thats a common mistake that non minorities often make. Feel free to come grab a little sunshine anytime. :)

I will visit just for the Sunshine but nothing else....I have heard about the injustices in Florida and will not work here.

Well..ur...everywhere one goes it is more than likely the same. What can I say.

Actually, I have worked for a variety of locales, and no, it isn't the same.

The SLPC has tracked bias groups for quite a while. FL consistantly and unfortunately rates disproportionately high on the list. And an issue often overlooked, many of the members are not originally from FL, or even from the South.

I hesitate to raise that fact on the BB, as the last time that I did, I was trashed by FL defenders that questioned my origins and legitimacy as a poster.

(I was going to bring up the same point -- thank you.)

Well I'm done with this thread..If ppl really hate florida that much then great they can just stay away or STOP complaining about it. The less ppl the more jobs for us who love it here:)

I have to STRONGLY agree with Tierra399. I was raised in Wisconsin, lived in southern California during the summers for 10 years, lived in Nashville for a year, and lived in Florida for 7 years. Lots of moving but I think I am well-rounded because of it. I can honestly say it is all your opinion on what you prefer. California is too expensive and too far away. Nashville is nice but not tropical (which I like). Wisconsin is the opposite of Florida. Florida is humid, sunny all year, tropical, diverse, and promotes outdoor living. Taxes are cheaper than Wisconsin! People complain about nursing in Florida. There is no perfect place to work ok? Up here in Wisconsin there are tons of things I could complain about but that is nursing. We are helping people and when you deal with people you deal with all kinds of personalities. The rate of pay might be a little lower is Wisconsin due to the flooding of nursing students here. I would take the sunshine over cloudy, cold, dismal snow-filled days ANYTIME...I believe people in Florida don't appreciate the beautiful state they live in and how good they have it. I miss Florida terribly. I cannot wait to move back!!! And I felt the same when I lived in Nashville as well. Florida is where I call home. P.S. I am sorry if I offended anyone, this is just my personal opinion.

April, I would move back to Wisconsin anytime. I was living in Wisconsin and was back in florida for school. If I could get an RN Job in Wisconsin, I would go in a heart beat!

It is beautiful here in Florida. However the pay rate is way low here. I took a huge pay cut to move here, but we were determined to give it a try and be closer to our family. Up north pays way better believe me!!!! Also the healthcare system is way behind. I feel like I have stepped back in time by at least 10 years! The healthcare system is by far not current. I feel like physicians are more reactive than proactive down here. They don't try to prevent they wait until they have to do something to fix it. Truly truly do. If you can take the pay cut go for it.

Can i ask what the SLPC is? Just curious.

Uh...How bout them Gators? (this thread took an odd turn....trying to change the subject :clown:)

I (un?)fortunately have plans to move to FL in the coming summer from PA to be with family. The stories ive read here kinda scare me, but im coming whether FL is ready or not. :p

I'm putting my house up for sale in Jan and applying for my Canadian LPN license. Things here in FL are not improving and I just don't see the job situation here getting any better any time soon.

It depends WHERE in Florida. Florida should literally have 2 states, a North FL and South FL, lol. I was born and raised in South Florida and I'm on my way getting out of here and NEVER coming back. What GOOD: The diversity of AUTHENTIC food!!!! The beach...and that's about it. What's BAD: There's only 2 seasons- Hot and Hurricane. People are selfish and self-centered. It's all about being tan and whoever can buy the best car, clothes, or jewelery. People have no consideration for others, even something as simple as saying "Thank you" for anything!!! A majority of my friends are also on the same boat as me....on our way moving out of here and never coming back. It seems like for a majority of SoFL there's a decent amount of crime, always lock everything down here. I actually have 3 locks on my front door, and if it wasn't for the 2 additional locks I would've already lost everything since a burglar almost got in. People from my family have been gun-pointed at at their own business and have been robbed numerous of times in Fort Lauderdale. Public education is very bad here, with a few exceptions of course. I remember in middle school there was at least (hence, at LEAST!) 2 fights every week. I had to go to the school board numerous of times to get into a better school for high school, and until this day I am still grateful for that. I guess I didn't turn out too bad from being raised down here, lol, but I know I could've been something better if I did not grow up here.

I take many trips up North every year and it's like a breather from all the "pollution" from the society here. I'm sorry I'm just ranting now. I'm at the point where I want to save everyone from making a mistake of their lives by moving to Florida, South FL at least. I guess it ultimately depends on your interests; if you like shopping, clubbing, and tanning then this is the place for you. It seems like people have less hobbies down here, besides from what I just said a moment ago.

In summary, WEST Florida is BEAUTIFUL, it's less "hip" than SouthFL. Gainesville (GO GATORS!) is it's own college town. It's a super awesome school. Orlando (UCF) is another great place. There's a lot of theme parks and farmer markets. Tallahassee is another college town on its own. Key West is a tourist/vacation spot. If you decide to live anywhere in South Florida, just be safe and don't trust anyone.
