Why Does Everyone Hate Florida So Much??

Published

I live in Chicago and have visited almost every part of Florida, I am actually going to be visiting Ft.Lauderdale at the end on January. I ask anyone here that has ever lived in Florida and they have nothing but terrible things to say. They tell me the schools and education systems are bad and that the majority of the population have low Iq's and are poor. I don't know why this is, everyone seemed pretty normal to me?? I would like to move there one day and start a new life with my husband but I'm worried about salary and job placement for both himself and I. Why are some peoples experiences so bad, its so beautiful and the people are very nice. I just don't get it. Can someone help me understand why this is??

To those of you who don't like it then move on. I personally hated Ohio and left without looking back and it was the best decision I have ever made. Life is short, do what makes you happy and stop wishing you were somewhere else, worked somewhere else, made more money etc. Make it happen YOU control your destiny.:yeah:

To each their own.

Me, of all the many places that I've lived, Northern California remains the very best. I actually wish fewer people felt the same. It was much nicer when the population was smaller.

Florida's one of the most populous states in the country so there must be quite a number people who don't hate it.

It's nice to hear someone else is happy where they are. I guess I'm getting old but I just don't see why everyone wants to complain but not do anything to change their situation. If I can embark on a new career and move 1000 miles away in my 40's then anyone can change their destiny!

It always gets my goat when people act like Florida is somehow subpar. Considering native Floridians are scarce anymore and almost everyone down here is from somewhere else...could it be that the North is sending down their wierdos? JUST KIDDING. But you know what I mean. If most of the people here are all from somewhere else.....well...it isn't a Florida thing. Just saying...

I would move but I am in RN school and am getting in-state tuition. Also FL prepay college so kinda stuck here. That's why I haven't left.

Where do I start:

1. Heat and humidity suck. Sweaty face, zits, frizzy hair, etc.

2. Air conditioning. We're so hot we run are like crazy. So then that dries skin, face, hair, etc after it was just wet and greasy.

3. People can't drive. You never do speed limit. If limit 50 everyone goes 35. 35 everyone goes 25-30. School zones 20 everyone does 10. Takes 1 hour to drive less than 10 miles.

4. High crime. Tiny town. 20 unsolved murders a year. However, tons of seatbelt tickets and speed traps. Rampant drug problems. Schools are overcrowed. In my highschool had to walk a city block to some portables across the street to go to some classes. In 5 mins. Always late. And this was a well to do school with rich kids in Beemers and Benzes(not me).

5. High cost of pretty much everything.

6. Right to work state means no job security and low wages. Don't like working as an LPN for $14. Tough crap, we'll find someone willing to.

7. Bugs all year round. Lovebugs, skeeters, ants, snakes, frogs everywhere, palmetto bugs 3 inches in length who fly AT YOU when you're trying to kill them. Like they know you can't aim when you're running from them. Best is wolf spiders who live in the trees that are the size of tarantulas.

Good Things:

1.Right to work state means you can quit a crappy job with no notice.

2.No state taxes

3.Estate tax not a problem here

4.Many health care jobs because elderly population(however lots of nurses here too)

FOR SOME REASON, WE SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF CRAZY INSANE PEOPLE HERE. Whenever I see a weird news story or a stupid criminal story always seem to originate here in FL. Once seen a news link on the years worst of dumb criminals. 69 out of 82 were from FL. I remember someone telling me we have all the crazies cause all the nuts role down hill and settle here LOL.

Moving to the Treasure Coast in a few days. I love the people, the weather, and the scenery! And that's coming from a California girl!

Just curious, where in FL are you???

2.No state taxes.

High sales tax. You pay it no matter how poor you are.

Not much culture. Not much of an art scene or music scene anywhere in the state.

In South Florida, for most jobs, your Spanish had better be pretty fluent. For most jobs, English is not so critical.

There are lots of service jobs, but very few high-paying jobs, unless you're a physician (especially if you're a plastic surgeon), established attorney, or you deal in illicit drugs. Pay for most jobs is far lower than it is in many other parts of the country, and is still low even after taking cost of living into account.

Lots of petty crime in urban areas. Lots of violent crime. A great abundance of poverty.

If you have kids, good luck finding good schools.

In South Florida, among the worst drivers and among the highest rate of hit-and-run accidents with pedestrians on the losing end.

No reasonable public transportation anywhere in the state.

Lots of superficial transient people from all over the country.

Little opportunity for an intellectual life.

Water from the Everglades is full of organic substances. Add chlorine to that and you have a tasty mix of chloroform and whatever. In the north you get sulfur compounds instead.

Other than that, it's a pretty cool place.
