Parade.com published an article today in honor of National Nurses Week. To celebrate the occasion, they posted a poll to find out who America thinks is the best fictional nurse on television.

allnurses was also featured in the article as a place where "real nurses" network.

And if you'd like to pay tribute to some real-life nurses this week, head over to allnurses.com, a networking site for RNs and nursing students. There, you can write a thank you message and the site will share it with its users.

The last portion refers to our new ThankANurse site, which was launched on Nurses Day 2014.

To read the entire article and participate in the poll, go to It's National Nurses Week! Poll: Who's the Best TV Nurse?

Well that big hair sure was a firm anchor for her cap. In the real world would have loved to swab and culture that sweater.
Now that's funny re her sweater!

Trapper John had his own TV show outside of MASH? I learn things everyday on Allnurses. :)

Maxwell Klinger, from MASH. While not officially a nurse, he wore the uniform well !

Pernell Roberts (oldest son on Bonanza) was Trapper, now a head honcho in some big hospital. He had a junior MD sidekick that used to live in an RV in the hospital parking lot. Thats about all I remember - the RV.

Now here's a series that I'm REAL fuzzy on. About a hospice nurse that was based on a real life nurse. I want to think it was Linda Lavin (from TV show Alice). I really don't remember much.

Then there's also Mary Ellen Walton who started out a nurse, but I think she went on to become an MD.

Yes, it was a spin off from M*A*S*H with Dr. T. John now in private practice some twenty years after the Korean war.

There were a couple of characters on the series that served with Trapper John, M.D. in Korea. One of them was a nurse nicknamed "Starch". She was not above being outspoken to "doc" when she felt he was handling something not the best way. Because they went way back the good doctor respected her opinion and valued her advice.

Have to say Trapper John, M.D. was one of the better medical dramas.

It wasn't a series; it was a made for TV movie about a real life nurse (drawing a blank on her name), who got the hospice movement going here in the US. She was supposedly based on a nurse from my area.

ETA: The nurse's name was Joy Ufema.

Sister Evangeline on Call the Midwife on PBS. Her nursing badassery is inspiring.

I couldn't agree more with everything you said. They did have her there alone at night doing admissions starting an IV and dangerously understaffed.

But I just laugh at all the stupid management clichés and customer service clichés.

I had the privilege of attending an all day Hospice seminar Joy Ufema conducted at Mercy Hospice in 1993 and read every column "Insights in Death and Dying" she wrote in Nursing magazine.

Chummy on Call the Midwife!

I love that show. I love Chummy, she seems to have such a calm manner about her when delivering the babies! shes funny and has such a lovable personality. shes kinda awkward too which makes her even more lovable.

There was an "Omni-Nurse" on Trapper John, MD. There she is in OB...no, there she is in the OR...no, she's over there in the ED, etc.
There is one of these "super" nurses on the Y & R too!
