Parade.com published an article today in honor of National Nurses Week. To celebrate the occasion, they posted a poll to find out who America thinks is the best fictional nurse on television.

allnurses was also featured in the article as a place where "real nurses" network.

And if you'd like to pay tribute to some real-life nurses this week, head over to allnurses.com, a networking site for RNs and nursing students. There, you can write a thank you message and the site will share it with its users.

The last portion refers to our new ThankANurse site, which was launched on Nurses Day 2014.

To read the entire article and participate in the poll, go to It's National Nurses Week! Poll: Who's the Best TV Nurse?

Specializes in ER, Addictions, Geriatrics.

I've been watching a new show called Remedy. It's not the greatest and probably won't make it past this debut season, but one of the main characters is a nurse who works in the ICU and I really enjoy her character! She's smart, they show her making excellent suggestions to the doctors regarding her patients, she advocates for her patients and isn't portrayed as a total airhead or some kind of subservient being.

:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

That '70s Show :roflmao: I love it

Specializes in Anesthesia, ICU, PCU.

Definitely Kitty Forman.

Specializes in retired LTC.

Adding another nurse to the collection would be Kate Jackson on The Rookies, an early 1970's weekly. She was the supernurse, working a different specialty when she was on.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Ahh, the quintessential float nurse.

Thank you for mentioning "Julia" and Bobbie on "General Hospital". I loved both of those shows.

Now I'm hooked thinking back to General Hospital. Remembering Jessie Brewer, RN, Audrey Hardy, RN, and Amy Vining, student nurse.

Jessie was like a head nurse/supervisor and Audrey was DON. I think. Amy was a candy stripper/student who always just seemed to be at the desk. And I remember Jessie and her navy blue sweater - was never without it that I can think of.

I love when nurses on mercy and Hawthorne can float to med surg, ER, peds, ICU with perfect competence in each specialty.

The other night I watched a recent episode of nurse Jackie where the ER nurse transferred the palliative patient to the ICU and continued to be his nurse once he had transferred to the unit. Oh and started a morphine drip when the patient was refusing it... Gotta love Nurse Jackie!

Specializes in Oncology; medical specialty website.

There was an "Omni-Nurse" on Trapper John, MD. There she is in OB...no, there she is in the OR...no, she's over there in the ED, etc.

Whoa...I guess she just used an IV pole instead of a stripper pole. ;)

Thanks for that flash back, yes she was an assertive, patient advocate working , er in today's terms "floated" to many areas.
