  1. I love that show. I love Chummy, she seems to have such a calm manner about her when delivering the babies! shes funny and has such a lovable personality. shes kinda awkward too which makes her even more lovable.
  2. The thing is i have heard about alot of people wanting to challenge the lvn boards and they are psych techs but when i search for the opposite lvn to lpt, i find nothing. I just dont know why LVNs wouldnt be able to transition to LPTs.
  3. How can an LVN become an psychiatric technician? Can you challenge the LPT board and receive your LPT license? By the way im in California
  4. BTW I went to redlands adult school which is now CRY-ROP. I dont know how much the school has changed but the teachers were excellent when i was there. san bernardino adult school was my second choice, its only a couple thousand. My program was more like 5k if i remember right.
  5. Hey Im from the IE :) I know you said you have researched alot of LVN programs but just making sure you didn't miss the adult schools. Their pass rates are usually better and the cost is wayyyy less. They usually require cna cert as a prereq though which is usually offered at the same school. Alot of my nursey friends/coworkers went to summit. When i graduated in 2011 i didnt have a problem finding a job in the IE. Lots of nursing homes around will hire new grads and if you like working with kids their is a company that cares for children with disabilities in a group home setting in riverside. That was my second nursing job and I sure do miss it. Good luck on your search for a program!
  6. sounds like a pretty cool nursing job. im gonna have to look into that myself :)
  7. Yea hands on is the best experience. Some schools dont give you as much opportunity at hands on as they should so i agree with the teacher. With your first nursing job they dont expect you to know everything and really will most likely train you as much as needed. You will be able to ask questions and you should be able to get help when you need it. As time goes by though you are on your own and you really do need to be independently figuring things out because really who is going to help you? Ok so im grateful for all the med pass and hands on skills we did in school during clinicals and i regret not doing certain things when i had the opportunity. For example, putting in an ng tube was an opportunity i had in school and i passed it up because i was too nervous about it. Well guess what, when i had my first nursing job the dr ordered ng t insertion for one of my patients. I had someone else do it because i wasnt able to and it needed to be done quickly. I could have done it with someone walking me through it but really there was no time for that.
  8. Its understandable why they would need someone experienced to do travel nursing. To be put in a new environment regularly along with different nursing situations/duties that you would independently have to deal with does not sound fun or doable for someone with no actual nursing experience. Unless you are somehow very competent with nursing straight out of school. There is a lot to learn out in the real world of nursing and im only saying this because I have a few years of experience and I still wouldnt feel comfortable enough to do travel nursing....though the idea of traveling sounds awesome :) I personally would want med/surg hospital experience before taking that on. Congrats on your soon to come graduation!!
  9. This is what i wanted to hear! Great getting input from someone who has done both nursing and medtech. Awesome that you have them both under your belt. I have heard of alot of people becoming bored as a medtech but you know what, i would prefer that over driving myself insane over nursing which i have done for the past 3 years. Besides i really dont think i would get too bored like most. Well, i hope. Thanks agian :)
  10. i love how you distinctly count every single month....like no you weren't at your job for a "year" it was a "year and one month" lol. i think its funny cuz i do the same thing. im proud of the anything on top of a year. yes, i am a job hopper too.
  11. thanks for your input :) yea i really want to start a routine of any type of physical activity. i think it will help my total well being. the sleeping situation on noc shift is pretty rough for me. hopefully working out will help.
  12. hey guys... any of the vampire nurses out there on noc shift workout also? does this help you sleep and create a better sleeping routine? before my noc job i loved to workout but now with this crazy schedule i find it hard because im always exhausted. i feel like an old lady but im in my 20's. if you do workout with this schedule when do you do it? working out always gave me energy so that is what im worried about...that it may cause me to be even more restless/sleepless than i already am. maybe instead of asking you guys i should get off my butt and try it myself lol but remember i said i feel like an old lady so im being lazy and asking you guys first :)
  13. yea you might be right. well it seems pretty interesting to be able to distinguish things under a microscope. from what i understand you are often diagnosing the specimens. so its a critical role in healthcare. i think it may fit the more quiet type of personality, which i am. seems like it would be less stress than a nursing job, but i really dont know because i have never even been inside a lab
