LVN to LPT?
The thing is i have heard about alot of people wanting to challenge the lvn boards and they are psych techs but when i search for the opposite lvn to lpt, i find nothing. I just dont know why LVNs wouldnt be able to transition to LPTs.

LVN Programs Inland Empire
BTW I went to redlands adult school which is now CRY-ROP. I dont know how much the school has changed but the teachers were excellent when i was there. san bernardino adult school was my second choice, its only a couple thousand. My program was more like 5k if i remember right.

LVN Programs Inland Empire
Hey Im from the IE :) I know you said you have researched alot of LVN programs but just making sure you didn't miss the adult schools. Their pass rates are usually better and the cost is wayyyy less. They usually require cna cert as a prereq though which is usually offered at the same school. Alot of my nursey friends/coworkers went to summit. When i graduated in 2011 i didnt have a problem finding a job in the IE. Lots of nursing homes around will hire new grads and if you like working with kids their is a company that cares for children with disabilities in a group home setting in riverside. That was my second nursing job and I sure do miss it. Good luck on your search for a program!

travel nursing with no experience
sounds like a pretty cool nursing job. im gonna have to look into that myself :)

Nurse vs Instructor
- Nurse vs Instructor
Yea hands on is the best experience. Some schools dont give you as much opportunity at hands on as they should so i agree with the teacher. With your first nursing job they dont expect you to know everything and really will most likely train you as much as needed. You will be able to ask questions and you should be able to get help when you need it. As time goes by though you are on your own and you really do need to be independently figuring things out because really who is going to help you? Ok so im grateful for all the med pass and hands on skills we did in school during clinicals and i regret not doing certain things when i had the opportunity. For example, putting in an ng tube was an opportunity i had in school and i passed it up because i was too nervous about it. Well guess what, when i had my first nursing job the dr ordered ng t insertion for one of my patients. I had someone else do it because i wasnt able to and it needed to be done quickly. I could have done it with someone walking me through it but really there was no time for that.- travel nursing with no experience
Its understandable why they would need someone experienced to do travel nursing. To be put in a new environment regularly along with different nursing situations/duties that you would independently have to deal with does not sound fun or doable for someone with no actual nursing experience. Unless you are somehow very competent with nursing straight out of school. There is a lot to learn out in the real world of nursing and im only saying this because I have a few years of experience and I still wouldnt feel comfortable enough to do travel nursing....though the idea of traveling sounds awesome :) I personally would want med/surg hospital experience before taking that on. Congrats on your soon to come graduation!!- Nursing versus medical technologist/clinical lab scientist
This is what i wanted to hear! Great getting input from someone who has done both nursing and medtech. Awesome that you have them both under your belt. I have heard of alot of people becoming bored as a medtech but you know what, i would prefer that over driving myself insane over nursing which i have done for the past 3 years. Besides i really dont think i would get too bored like most. Well, i hope. Thanks agian :)- I'm a job hopper.... HELP!
i love how you distinctly count every single month....like no you weren't at your job for a "year" it was a "year and one month" lol. i think its funny cuz i do the same thing. im proud of the anything on top of a year. yes, i am a job hopper too.- any noc shift workers....
thanks for your input :) yea i really want to start a routine of any type of physical activity. i think it will help my total well being. the sleeping situation on noc shift is pretty rough for me. hopefully working out will help.- any noc shift workers....
hey guys... any of the vampire nurses out there on noc shift workout also? does this help you sleep and create a better sleeping routine? before my noc job i loved to workout but now with this crazy schedule i find it hard because im always exhausted. i feel like an old lady but im in my 20's. if you do workout with this schedule when do you do it? working out always gave me energy so that is what im worried about...that it may cause me to be even more restless/sleepless than i already am. maybe instead of asking you guys i should get off my butt and try it myself lol but remember i said i feel like an old lady so im being lazy and asking you guys first :)- Nursing versus medical technologist/clinical lab scientist
yea you might be right. well it seems pretty interesting to be able to distinguish things under a microscope. from what i understand you are often diagnosing the specimens. so its a critical role in healthcare. i think it may fit the more quiet type of personality, which i am. seems like it would be less stress than a nursing job, but i really dont know because i have never even been inside a lab- LPN pre-entrance interview
i remember my interview just a little...yes dress professional. being a cna will most definitely help! when i had mine it was three people interviewing me at the same time! it was nerve wrecking! i was nervous but its normal to be nervous. i think they just want to make sure you have the potential and drive to get through the program and become a nurse. i wish i could remember what they asked me....i think one question was something like, tell me about a difficult situation you have been in and how did you handle it/how did you react? make sure they know you want this and that you can really get through the program.....good luck! let us know how it went! im sure you will do great!- ADVICE!!
becoming a cna is quick! its hard work but a good learning experience. in my opinion phlebotomy seems pretty cool. it can be done quickly too. i know redlands ca is far from glendale but they have a school called wagner training inst. and you can get your phleb training done pretty quickly.- New here/having a nursing midlife crisis
Welcome...i am pretty new here too. I have found that sharing your worries and thoughts on here really do help. If you are unhappy at the hospital you are currently at then you are doing the right thing on finding another position....its no fun to dislike your job. Best of luck to you!- Extra certifications for new grads?
iv therapy/blood withdrawal and trach/vent cert...i think those might be the most helpful.- Med passing question from a student
One reason nursing really eats me alive.....what we are supposed to do is often different than what we are able to do in a timely manner. Unless you work with very little patients and have all the time in the world to do everything correctly. just think about it..in ltc your often given, i would say 25-30 pts....2 hrs to pass the meds...work overload!!!! how is anyone supposed to do what they were taught is the right way in school!- Nursing versus medical technologist/clinical lab scientist
Anyone out there a medical technologist? Im an LVN in search of a job that will better suit my personality and i think medical technology is it! I planned on doing RN but im having serious doubts. As a medical technologist what is a day at work like? Is it satisying? I know its way different from nursing because you are stuck under a microscope but what else are you doing? Also how hard is the program? The only science background i have is anatomy and physiology so i think i need to take some basic bio classes to see how interesting i find it to be. I jsut know that i definitely want to stay in the medical field to make a living but nursing doesnt fit my introverted worrisome personality. I want to be science knowledgeable and feel competent at what i do and being a scientist just sounds like my idea of awesome!- feeling down and incompetent
Yes and I think being an LVN now makes me realize how much RN isnt for me. Awesome that its getting better and better for you :) My heart goes out to every nurse that sticks to it- feeling down and incompetent
Thank you all for your feedback. It really helps. i ended up bringing up the situation to the mother and felt a little better after that. I still feel like this position or just nursing in general isnt for me. I know the family wants the happy go lucky energetic silly nurse type but that just isnt me. Im a hard worker and im very reliable but my personality just doesnt cut it. I constantly feel awkward being in their home. I guess im just a super awkward person who overthinks and worries. ive been an lvn for three years. First year i worked in a busy busy nursing home and was so happy to be out of there because all i would do is stress over my patients and i felt like i couldnt get everything done. Nursing homes can be really stressful which im sure alot of you out there know. My second job was working at a group home for kids with developmental disablities which now looking back i realize how much i really loved it but i left after a year because i moved but i also couldnt really wait to be out of there because i would stress stress stress about the kids and oh im i doing things right, did i forgot something, etc. Now i have this job.....and im stressing about the littliest things such as these dumb things im saying to the parents, when the job itself is actually really pretty easy! So i guess im just a big stress case! Im not sure what to do. Basically im not happy at this job and im looking for a way out. Put it this way ever since ive starting nursing i sleep like crap and i havent felt like ive been able to breath or be myself. its like i get eaten up by all the little stressors that go along with nursing which is a real shame because i know im caring and a hard worker but maybe i care too much??? ahhhh....so having said all this i think it would be a mistake to become an RN when im not happy as an LVN.- Clinical Laboratory Scientist or RN
after being an LVN for a few years i have decided not to do RN and go for CLS. i think it suits my personality much better than nursing. Its more schooling! especially since i already have my LVN but i want to go for it. i think it really depends on what kind of work you enjoy, most nursing in my eyes is high stress and busy busy busy....i hate making mistakes and in nursing that is often how you learn but it can eat a person alive and lower confidence to extremes! its not for everyone. i wish i didnt overthink things but i generally do. CLS is more behind the scenes working alone no hands on care, just on the science specimen side of healthcare.- feeling down and incompetent
Ive been in home health care for 6 months as an lvn caring for a vent/trach pt. i feel soooooo stupid for something i said and this isnt the first really DUMB thing i have said to them! i want to explain the whole situation but im new to this site so im not sure if im allowed to do so. All i know is i dont think nursing is for me because things dont always click in my brain. i feel like im coming off as so dumb. maybe its just the home health thing im not sure but goodness what low confidence can do! my last lvn job i felt really smart. seemed like people would come to me when they needed something but wew after feeling dumb in front of the parents of the client i care for i feel trapped like i cant make up for it! AHHHHHHHH its like replaying in my head. what am i gonna do i almost want to tell them sorry for what i said and that i understand now. or maybe i should just forget it and move on with my life. In school i did great! however, it is soo different out in the work place. soo i have decided not to pursue RN anymore. Im aiming for clinical lab scientist. i am hoping i will be good at that. its a high goal to aim for but fprget RN i dont think im very good at nursing. i almost want to just quit my lvn job and find something i can do in a lab like driving around specimens and take a major pay cut well im just ranting on and on but i feel a little relieved after typing out my feelings. anyone else have serious doubts about nursing and/or ever feel really dumb in certain situations???????? hope im not the only one - Nurse vs Instructor
