Who is your favorite TV or movie Nurse?

A good actor that I took notice to was the actress who played Abby on ER before she became a doctor. She always had things under control and worked well under pressure.

I forgot one! I absolutely loved Ashley Judd as the OB/GYN nurse in Where the Heart Is. She was a caring kind nurse and did a good job. I may be a little biased since she is an Eastern Kentucky girl.

Funny how different perceptions can be. I was annoyed at the nurse in "Where the Heart Is" I thought she came off as flaky and irresponsible.

Really, I thought Ashley Judd acted more like the nurses I know than anyone mentioned on this thread so far. She was a stressed out mother looking for Mr. Right, raising her kids in small town America. As a human being she had faults but then again people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Trust me I am not about to throw to many stones :chuckle .

Barbara Stanwick in a movie called "Night Nurse." If you have never seen it, do yourself a favor and go rent it. You'll laugh your assessment off.

I liked the Julie London character because she was very bright and not a little hand-maiden to the docs, who actually seemed to respect her. That white uniform and cap-whew! I will take my tropical fish scrub top and turquoise pants anyday thanks!

I liked Juliet Binoche in "The English Patient" -tres Florence Nightengale

Actually wish I could be like Laverne from "Empty Nest" or Haleh from "ER"

The male nurse in "John Q" -also good, very professional and heartwarming.

My favorite nurse is definitely Abby from ER, with Carol Hathaway a close second. Although I wish they kept Abby a nurse and didn't have her go to med school and become a doctor. I'm not a nurse yet, but an RN friend of mine said she doesn't know any nurse who's gone on to become a doctor, and had never even heard a real-life story about a nurse leaving nursing to be an MD. Is this really rare??

:rolleyes:

It happens. One of my classmates ("nurse of the year") went on to become an MD--head of her department, I hear. One of my favorite MDs when I was in nursing school was formerly an RN. She used to give the COPDers H** when she caught them smoking (that was before hospitals were no-smoking).

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

[color=#4b0082]my favorite nurses are colleen mcmurphy from china beach and abby from er (before med school). both knowlegeable and competent -- and neither wears heels to work, spends her entire shift flirting with the physicians or acts dependent!

[color=#4b0082]

[color=#4b0082]to answer the other question, i've been a nurse for 28 years, and i've known 3 nurses who went to medical school. most of us are damned glad we weren't foolish enough to do that in the first place!

Gaylord Focker from "Meet the parents" and "Meet the fockers" :chuckle ! (I know, not a real nurse. But then again neither are any of the people you all mentioned.)

Specializes in Gerontological, cardiac, med-surg, peds.

I loved Sharona on Monk. She was witty, intelligent, compassionate, and intuitive. Sharona was in fact one of the most positive role models for nursing in the media. The show lost a lot of its appeal when this character left. :crying2:
