Hi!
I'm starting nursing school in august, and for clinicals we can't wear thongs or bikini style underwear!! Ah!! I feel like I have no options, and yes, they have to be white so that rules out flesh-colored underwear. Any suggestions? My white bottoms are basically see-through which is why I always wore thongs in the past, but those days are long over. What kind is your favorite to wear?
Thanks! :)
Well in the past I've always made sure you couldn't see my thong through my underwear and in the winter I did wear leggings underneath. It got hot sometimes, but that was only when the patients room was 95 degrees (I did CNA clinicals in a nursing home)! Lucky for you that you get maroon! And good luck in clinicals!! :)
Thank you very much!!
Speaking as a male RN, I have to say this has been a fascinating thread to read. ;-) Like in so many things, us guys have simpler choices to make.
For a while, our hospital had a dress code which said "underwear shall be worn, but shall not be visible"
I always sort of wondered how that rule was enforced. In our union contract it also required that a union rep visiting the hospital had to comply with the hospital dress code. Our first union rep was a big - and very handsome - ex-marine who kind of liked to poke at management just for fun. So on his first visit he met with the head of HR and said "I have to confess, I'm not complying with the dress code - I'm not wearing underwear." She (the HR director) turned several shades of pink.

What is the difference if you wear white or flesh colored. I wear flesh colored. I think it looks better with white pants.
I do not wear thongs or wedgie strings to begin with. And how do they know whether you are wearing bikini or whatever cut(i mean thong is obvious) but like high cut brief/bikini or hipsters have similar panty lines.
What cut of underwear do they want you to wear?
I did not read through all the posts, so please forgive me if I repeat what someone has already said.
I was told by my instructor and both clinical teachers "your undergarments must be WHITE", and for us ladies that meant putting on your granny panties."
I personally wear white boy short underwear, and have had nothing said to me, just make sure that the band around the underwear is white also. Good luck.
It might be that they don't want you to wear flesh colored because they don't want them to be invisible and give the impression that you aren't wearing anything at all. They may want to see that you have something on -- but that it is plain and does not create possibly distracting low-rise (bikini level) panty line.
A plain white brief will be visible, but should only have a line at the legs -- and may not have a significant one at the legs if you buy ones with very narrow "bandless" leg opening.s
Re: leggings . .. there is silk long underwear which is lighter in texture and more comfy but I only wear them in cold weather.
Depending on your body type - bikini and other tiny underwear shows up in "panty lines".
When I started my first job, we had to wear white pants and were allowed to wear denim so I wore white denim jeans. No way you can see through those if you wear white underwear. I appreciated that.
There is a nurse I work with that I've mentioned before on these "white scrub bottom" threads (yes, there are many!) . . . anyway, she wears very thin white scrub bottoms and white underwear and you can see her legs and underwear. Drives me crazy. I think it looks unprofessional.
Sometimes I'm tempted to take a camera to work and photograph her working . . . . just so she would be able to see how it looks.
Of course, I'm too chicken to say anything to her.

Now, I remember why I hated some of the "rules" in nursing school. I think their point is "look professional" which means no underwear showing under your white scrub pants. I think flesh tones are best. My hospital tryed to mandate the color of our scrubs twice in the last 5 years and lost the battle twice because it was so controversial. We donot get any compensation for buying our uniforms from our facility. So, I guess the battle continues on even after you are out of school. Good Luck in school!
