Which units/wards have the least admissions/quiet?

When I worked at our huge Trauma Center in the ER as an RN, Our Burn unit got the least admissions, but the patients stayed for months. Our chest pain unit could get 2 patients to 8 patients max and it was pretty straight forward orders since I got pulled to work there a few times. Pretty quiet at night.

Where I work, only a very busy department would even have a receptionist anymore.

They were phased out in a lot of departments and replaced by a crosstrained nursing assistant who answered the phone and answered the door between CNA duties. The rationale is that computer charting did away with many of the tasks the unit secretaries used to do.

Now the phone rings a lot, and the nurses are having to do a lot of the work the secretaries/ward clerks used to do when the CNA is busy.

oh thats really not good.i think that ward clerks are a very useful tool to the good function of the place

Nope, our place is the same.we get one from 8to 4 ,but we get slammed at 5 and on, especially on mondays.

Computer charting ,ahahahaha

My hospital is similar, but they have an RN stationed at the desk who can take orders, call for orders, etc.

My prior employer only had a clerk when telemetry was involved and clerk duties were a side job. I don't see a slow unit hiring someone to kick back and take it easy at the desk, but I do wish you (OP) luck. ?

That it depends on the hospital and ward. Non of us know where you work or what you consider busy.

The morgue is usually pretty quiet. Although the admissions are somewhat inevitable, I never experienced the patients ringing any callbells there.

Working a MN shift during the summertime on a child or adolescent psych unit.

Census goes way down when school's not in session and those kids generally sleep. all. night!

Its a ward with constant admissions and always above 20patients and some deaths too..so its very active busy place i dont get bored just curios about wards who are queit although of course those are hardest to get lol

i would love to work at a psych unit as its something which rlly interest me but i dont get to choose lol we just work where its available.
