Where are all the nursing jobs?

I'm going to be moving from Ohio to anywhere. Looking at Phoenix, Sacramento or Vegas but I am considering all possibilities. I have 13 years experience as an RN in an acute care setting. Where are all the jobs? I've been reading about so many different cities where the job market is awful. I don't want to move somewhere that there are very limited number of jobs. Any suggestions?

As I read this post, Live PD was on a drunken domestic call in that town!

Ha, I'm watching right now but they're in FL. I have never been to Pasco County but I am curious about it.

Wanna do home care? I can get you a job no prob.

I moved from Cincinnati to Phoenix in 2015 with 9 years of pediatric nursing experience under my belt without any difficulties. As others have said based on your 13 years, I can't imagine you having much of a problem. I wouldn't recommend CA just because of the massive cost of living difference from Ohio. AZ, Nevada, and Texas are great states to look into where you will likely have a significant pay increase from Ohio with only a slight cost of living adjustment.

I live in Hillsborough County which is right below Polk County. Polk County is essentially sinkholes, older adults, and drugs.

I don't know if it's true but I read somewhere that Alaska, Montana and Wyoming are hiring nurses and giving our huge relocation and sign on bonuses.

If you are looking to relocate anywhere for a job, i would recommend Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Cost of living great, nurses paid very fairly. Plus they will pay a moving truck to pack and move you. Lots of perks

try Baylor Scott and White in Temple TX. also Metroplex Health System in Killeen TX. also usajobs.gov for Central Texas Veterans Health Care System or Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center. i live here along with family but prob feel about central tx the way you feel about ohio but am not in position to relocate so maybe influx of new personnel can make me happier. btw since u r neuro, VA treats SCI and CRDAMC treats TBI down here and BSW is level 5 trauma and a big multi-specialty institution. blessings.

I found that central Texas doesn't seem to pay well considering it's a lot of country. The long drive with low pay doesn't seem worth it.

Geez louise, is Ohio really that bad?? I have a sister in law who lives

in the Columbus area and she seems to think she is in heaven. She could

have relocated to Denver CO fer chrissakes, but made her fiancé relocate

back to OH instead.. he's actually from Cincinnati anyway though.

To the OP, Lexington and Louisville both have jobs available with good

pay... and you know KY has a low cost of living. Louisville rocks. It's

a fun city.

I'm going to offer a little different perspective on your experience. Experience is great, right? It should make you easily employable just about anywhere. Unless of course you have too much experience. Then, especially in a saturated market having too much experience makes you too expensive. Just anecdotal evidence of course but it seems like the sweet spot for years of experience is between 2 and 5, once you get above 10 it might actually be a negative instead of a positive.

Are you financially able to pick a place and move before you find a job or do you plan on finding the job first and then moving? There are pluses and minuses to both. My son is a traveler and is used to frequently moving, he doesn't have the challenge of finding a job since he chooses the contract before he moves, the biggest challenge is always finding good housing. Of course it's harder for a traveler since he can't commit to the 1 year lease so many rentals seem to want. My sister-in-law moved to Salt Lake City for a job and rented a place through the internet, committing to that 1 year lease sight unseen. It was a nice enough apartment but a little smaller than she thought it would be and not quite as suburban of a neighborhood as she expected.

Look at rural nursing, or working in underserved areas. They are always looking for nurses in rural and native American reservations.

You should check out Utah. The one major healthcare employer in the state is a great company to work for. Lots of jobs available. Amazing benefits. Unwavering commitment to best practice and nurse empowerment. Quality of life in whole state is great. North if you don't mind the winters, the south if you want more milder weather. I live in the Southern part of the state. I am 2 hours from Vegas.
