Where Do You Study???

Published

Hello all!!!

This is my first Thread! I really want to know where do all my fellow nursing students can really focus and study at? I am having a hard time finding somewhere to study to where i can really focus. So far the school library seems to do it, but i can't always go as much as i need to study, nor do i have the gas to make extra trips during the week. Soo Where do you study????

:stdnrsrck:

Home. I live alone so I don't have the distraction of other people. Although, I do sometimes distract my own self. Oh did I turn on the dishwasher? Working on that!

I also had trouble finding a quiet place to study at home. I found that I did my best work at either Barnes and Noble or at Panera Bread. I was able to use the free internet & there was plenty of nourishment to be had. At Panera, there was also free refills on soda/iced tea. I would plug in my ipod to weed out the other noises and focus my attention. A table close to the bathroom was also key. Good luck!! :)

I just bought the Bose Quiet Comfort 15 noise canceling headphones so I can actually think when I try and study at the library! (When did people start talking so much in libraries--geeze!) They don't cancel all the noise, but there is a HUGE reduction. They are about $250 and I just chalked it up to an educational expense. Totally worth the cost if you have to study around other people!

I usually study at my local library. Most of the time it is really hard for me to concentrate at home with my family making noise and asking me questions. The library around the corner from me has remote rooms just for studying,tutoring,etc...

I study at home, in my room, usually at my computer.

I read in bed or in the living room on the couch, and I do my flashcards online (StudyStacks) while watching Netflix.

The flashcards are a good lecture review, and I don't feel like I'm being tortured because I'm getting to watch seasons of LOST the entire time.

The reading is done without distractions, and serves to bring everything together for me.

I really have no idea how people are able to study at coffee shops or places like Barnes and Noble! Too much hustle and bustle for my liking.

Coffee shops and B&N I have never gone to to study, but are actually quiet/less distracting by my standards. Like i said, i often study in lobby of boys and girls club.....hundreds of kids running around, and often screaming and yelling. Could never really read and digest material in either place, but any other studying I can. Some people just can block external out easier where others are more distracted by it. I honestly couldn't study in a place that is too quiet. Other then reading, if I am studying at home and it is too quiet I have to put on music or something....I find dead quiet too distracting most of the time....feels like i have to do something more tangibly productive. It really is a matter more of what distracts you

I study in my bedroom. While reading I write on my whiteboard and teach my bed the concept. It beats the memorization factor right away. Whe I go to class, I am very aware of my topic that is going to be discussed. It takes me about 30 minutes to 'teach' 20 pages, so I spend a lot of time doing it. After class, I make note cards for the lecture. It really helps me. I learn better by teaching.

I really like your teaching idea. I learn well from teaching too....may have to try that with some concepts.

I have a tiny 2 br home & share it with my hubby & 2 granddaughters. They are loud, Tv is blaring, and at night it's too quiet & I fall asleep as soon as I begin reading. So, I go to my nearby 24 hr restaurant. As long as I buy something to eat, they don't care how long I stay. They have a separate room that's used for lg groups, and they let me sit back there where it's quiet. There's just enough noise, and people moving around that I don't fall asleep. And when I start yawning, that's my clue to go home! Thank you Denny's, i got through nursing school with your assistance & I owe you and the waitresses SO MUCH!

IM doing most of my studying at home right now. I find that I get more done at the library. I have a small house so there is nowhere I can really leave my things out all the time. I use the kitchen table or sit on my bed with all my notecards and study there.

This is great, studying in denny's! See...they always make jokes in my class about how we'll all gain weight because all we do is sit around and eat while we study!!

I really wish we had a 24hour library but we don't...so I study in my room. My house is crowded...with kids running and making lots of noise so it's kind of pointless. I get more done at school between classes than I do at home. If I have a long break I'll go sit in my car and read and/or make notes and it's not like I have anything else to do so I get lots done!

I am a total extrovert and draw energy from others. Most of my best studying happens right in the middle of my home where chaos is ensuing. It's ridiculous, I know. I have my books and things out and study/read for 20-30 min here and there and take breaks to talk, clean, whatever. I have to take a lot of breaks to be productive and retain info.

Haha, I go to IHOP with a friend before a big test!

The dorms on our campus have study carrels and no one ever uses them (except during finals) - perfect if you need quiet and no distractions.
