Hello all!!!

This is my first Thread! I really want to know where do all my fellow nursing students can really focus and study at? I am having a hard time finding somewhere to study to where i can really focus. So far the school library seems to do it, but i can't always go as much as i need to study, nor do i have the gas to make extra trips during the week. Soo Where do you study????

:stdnrsrck:

This is a tough one for me, too. My school's library is under construction and this is my 3rd semester. It's been under construction since I started! Ack!

I learned how to study at home. I set up a little desk area next to a bookcase and that works well except for when my roommate has guests over.

I also like going to coffee shops, but the problem I've run into is that in a town of 100,000 they all close early! I need a place that's at least open until midnight. And also when I am at the coffee shops, I feel like I have to buy something, so it becomes a financial hassle as well.

I love big universities with nice libraries (my old university prior to nursing school had about 3 libraries!) and study rooms. My university now has no study rooms to speak of and no library. I feel like I would be a lot more efficient if it did, because I don't really like studying at home, even though I am forced to, thus, it HAS to work or I fail!

When I was in college the first time, the library was the best place for me to study. The reasons: it was quiet and there were few distractions. I absolutely cannot study near the TV, music, or other people who want to talk to me! If it is a hassle to get to the library, can you set up a quiet study area at home? I am going to do this for when I start classes in earnest this summer. Right now the most comfortable places in my house are the living room and dining room, but I can hear the TV in both. I may try an upstairs bedroom.

I can not study at home. Sadly my MOM will not leave me alone. when I try and tell her "hey mom I am trying to study she's like ok go do it quit talking about it and just do it." Then two minutes later she is back at the door. Wanting something else. Libraries, I can't study at, not the school's, or the public one. I don't know why I just can't. Coffee shops don't do it for me either. I go to my Therapists office, actually, and she has a little desk in another room, where I can go to. All I have to do is call, and ask if I can go up there, and I can get several good solid hours of study time in. The other place is at work. I can go into a free room, and sit in there and study but I have to leave the door cracked and if a call light goes off, I have to get up and go get it. Even though mom and I work at the same place, on the same unit, she leaves me alone there if I have time. But she won't at home. Not sure why.

Oh my gosh, I had 2 roommates one year who seriously watched tv 24/7 when they were home....which seemed like all the time. They wondered why I never wanted to stay home and I told them it was because the tv was nonstop and LOUD! I would lock myself in my bedroom, but I could still hear it, so I would spend all day on campus studying.

I had another roommate another year who would leave the tv on quietly as background noise. She always, always studied with it on even though she didn't watch it. I didn't understand that, but at least it wasn't loud enough to distract me.

I have a study that I use on most nights with a white board and a book case. Sometimes I have to study in my work truck on a jobsite, or in the common at the school before classes. I've gotten really good at blocking out noises and focusing on what I'm reading so I'm gradually getting okay at studying anywhere.

i have a hispanic grandma who has the TV on ALL DAY. and i don't mean the news or something quiet. i mean dominican TV. DOMINICANS ARE LOUD! and their music is LOUD! so here i am trying to memorize all this stuff for my exam tomorrow at 10am and all i hear it trumpets! LOL -.- so no not the house.

i can't go to my uncles bc he's into politics and im into politics, so we get into discussions and arguments and analyzing.... no, not his house.

starbucks is nice, but the one farthest from my house only. and i can only go there in the late afternoons when im already sleepy :( but i like it there. i always need to buy something there because i feel guilty..... and hungry ;)

and barnes and noble or borders is good, as long as i can find a decent seat and i don't have teeny boppers screaming around me about twilight or a new comic book that came out.... ugh

i bought a huge pack of earplugs.... i advise everyone to get them :)

I try to study when and where I can. Ironically the most productive study time seems to be on my lunch hour on days I am working a double. I can study for hours in my car. Basically if there is talking I can't concentrate. And if some how there is an internet connection near by time seems to vanish...I am not sure why.:D Libraries are sometimes okay, except when people won't shut up. I had an issue with this a couple weeks ago. In that case my ipod or a pair of ear plugs are required. Sometimes ear plugs and a lock on the door are required at home too. People don't seem to understand the idea of quiet study time.

Since I have 2 little ones its impossible to study at home..So i find a nice little cubicle at the college where I hibernate for about 7-8 hrs on saturday..again on sunday..and every morning before class and clinicals...phewww.

I study at coffee shops, book stores, libraries, in the car, and late at night at home. I need the study area to be quiet for me to have a successful study session.

I so identify with you all on the issues with studying at home. I always feel like there's something at home that needs my attention. I don't like to be separated from everything but i can most effectively studying on my bed. lol wierd but it works, but my back doesn't always agree. But i like the idea of going to the library and studying on saturday for 7hrs. That would seem so productive and i could manage to do that once a week and studying when i can at school, work an home. In the coffee shops and bookstore (barnes and nobles, etc) does the people coming and going and talking distract you? Or do you pop in earplugs and slip into the world of Nursing? :D

noo not at all..the library is huge and quiet.:D
