Where have you applied? Gotten your acceptance/rejection letter yet?

Hi there! Just wanted to get to know each other some more and kind of see what everyone's plans were.

Just curious to see:

  1. Where all did you apply for NP school?
  2. Which school is your first choice and why?
  3. What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)?
  4. What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have?
  5. Have you heard back from any school(s) yet?
  6. What semester are you looking to start?
  7. Online or on campus?

Here are my answers:

  1. UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, University of Alabama. Debating applying to Duke, Vanderbilt, & NYU (I will apply to those once I get acceptance/rejection letters from the first 4, just because they are all so expensive, they would be my last choices).
  2. Chapel Hill is my first choice now - it's distinguished but still a state school so it's affordable. I currently live in Charlotte, NC, so I wouldn't be moving so far I would be leaving my family completely. Alabama is my 2nd choice. Their program would be amazing because it combines the FNP & PMHNP and it's all online, which would be fantastic.
  3. I've applied to FNP and PMHNP programs. I have a background in psychiatric emergency department and also pulmonary progressive telemetry. I would be so happy with either route, and honestly I couldn't decide myself. So I figured whatever program I got into would ultimately make the decisions for me.
  4. I have a 3.76 overall GPA with a 3.9 in nursing. My GRE wasn't outstanding, I scored a 152 on verbal, 162 on quantitative, and 4.0 on writing. I have 2 years experience.
  5. Not heard back anything yet. Most deadlines just hit, so I'm thinking by mid-April I should know something.
  6. UNC Charlotte starts in the summer, but all other programs are Fall 2014.
  7. I would honestly prefer an online curriculum, but the only online only is Alabama. The rest are combined into on-campus and distance education.

Nice to meet you all!

Wow good luck t everyone. I am already feeling panic and I am just now trying to decide where to apply for next year. My BSN GPA was a 3.02. I have 10 years as an RN and 3 years before that as an LPN. Currently am a school nurse and adjunct faculty for community college ADN program. Wish me luck, sounds like i'Ll need it

JoAnna, your story sounds like mine. My total GPA is 2.8 or 2.9...I think my nursing school one is about the same (I went to the old extremely tough hospital program) my BSN gpa is probably a solid 3.0-3.1...I have been a nurse for 19 years, great references (even if they are from years ago) and living rural (no PMHNP or any kind of psych nursing) and there is a desperate need in my community...Hoping I can get in based on need and desire to serve the underserved! I probably won't hear until the end of June beginning of July...I'm panicking as well!

JoAnnaSkewlRN, I got my final transcript mailed to me and my GPA was higher than I thought (not as high as others have posted) 3.307 (that was my last 52 credits, with the 8 remaining credits from another school may have bumped me to a 3.4). That is probably why my GRE was waived. I have a lot of years of nursing experience behind me (19) and I am hoping that and my references will help, but, it seems UTA is so competitive. Who really knows what they are looking for. Have you heard back yet? I still have yet to hear anything. Deadline closed on the 15th. Fingers crossed for us!

Hi all, congrats to all that have made it into their programs and fingers crossed for the ones still waiting.

Where all did you apply for NP school?

Georgetown CNM/WHNP

Which school is your first choice and why?

It is the only one I applied to :/

What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)?

CNM/WHNP

What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have?

My GPA in my BSN program is a 3.62 although combined with my ASN program it is ~3.0-3.1 I am worried about that. I did not take a GRE and it was not required. I did tele from 2003 until I started L&D 2007 then I did both until about 2010. 2010-current just L&D/postpartum.

Have you heard back from any school(s) yet?

I submitted my application on 6/08 was told about a week later they were missing one piece of paperwork. I got that in to them. Then I waited a couple of days they said they had everything and 30 minutes later they emailed and said they needed a new copy of my transcripts and a letter from my current program saying I have 3 classes left. This was yesterday 6/20...oh joy.

What semester are you looking to start?

Jan 2015

Online or on campus?

ArmyRNkuz, I applied for PSU's AGACNP program for the fall earlier this year. If they do the notifications the same as they did then, you'll receive something in the mail. That being said, I actually called them around the time they said they would be letting us know and was able to find out over the phone a few days before my letter came. I started taking a few classes this summer. I really like the program so far and there have been some FNP students in my classes. I hope you hear from them soon!

1. I applied to two programs - UTHealth and UTMB. I live in Texas.

2. Both programs are excellent but UTMB is actually my first choice because it's mostly online.

3. FNP.

4. The GRE/MAT was not required for admission. I have a 3.5 overall GPA. I have over 4 years of experience as an RN.

5. I heard back from UTHealth and I accepted. I'm really hoping UTMB a contacts me soon, though. I won't expect to hear from them until probably January.

6. UTHealth's program starts January 11th.

7. UTHealth's program is a mixed online/on-campus program.

Hello! I know this post is from years ago, but I'm applying to FNP programs and was wondering if you had any advice! We have many similar programs - UNC Charlotte (my top choice), UNC Wilmington, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke. I'm very nervous about getting accepted - many threads I've read have made it seem nearly impossible to get into graduate school :( If you have any advice/tips/info I'd really appreciate it! Thanks in advance :)

I really liked the looks of the EKU program, but could not do that program an clinical in the state of Massachusetts.
