Hi Allison, I did not work full time while going to EKU's PMHNP Program. However, it is do-able as many of my colleagues did. The last semester of clinical scan get tricky as you need a lot of hours. Others used PTO to do clinical or vacation time so that they could get the 360 hours in. That being said, I loved the program, very interactive, professors are very involved and invested. Did not feel like "an online program." Good luck, study hard, work ahead a little so that you don't fall behind. You got this!

No, I'm not doing a post masters. I'm doing an actual master's program. I'm doing Psych NP (PMHNP). I posted about the program above. I really like my program.

Hi! I am graduating in May. I have really liked the program. I have friends at other schools and I'm shocked at the lack of interaction they have with professors...They get an assignment---read articles or the book and turn a paper in. No interaction at all. We have Adobe sessions live, in person....I really feel like I know my professors. We have power point lectures, with transcription of the lectures (I listen & highlight the transcript & print out the power points to study for tests)...It's w.o.r.k.---it's a lot of time to really learn the information, but I don't think I'd be successful at any other "self-teaching" school...I like that I can ask questions during the live sessions. I like that we do case simulations with our facilitators---live. I have been very pleased.

Sure. You'll do great! I can honestly say I've been happy with EKU. Especially, after some of my friends stories from their NP school. EKU is waaaay more organized & involved. I feel that the professors know us as if we were in the brick & mortar campus. Just expect to bust your a$$ and spend every spare minute perfecting papers, studying lectures & notes, & writing APA...Make sure your APA is FLAWLESS...If you put the effort in the beginning, you will have no issues with "writing scholarly"....Give me a shout, I'm around next few hours.

I am in the PMHNP program. So, I'm only going on what the FNP students say and they LOVE it. The woman that teaches all the FNP classes, taught our Pharmacology class and she is AMAZING! She's kind, sweet, smart, and so encouraging. She's organized and efficient, she gives you what you need to know, and while her quizzes apply the information, they are pretty challenging, but because it's her, you want to do well. The FNP side is well put together. I think you will find nothing wrong with that program.

No visits for EKU...I liked that, too...It wouldn't have bothered me to do campus site visits though. Not sure what you mean by asynchronous coursework--I think of that as more like logging in live at the same time as a live class at the brick and mortar? If that is the case, no. They tape their lectures and you can watch at your convenience. I think every school has their kinks, no doubt, but so far it has been mostly positive. They have 3 start dates per year which is super convenient. Give them a call, you might be pleased!

Well, EKU has 100% pass rate on ANCC for the past 7 years or so....Also, it is ranked #18 in online Graduate Nursing programs by US News and World Report... It beat Georgetown, Drexel, Vanderbilt by a landslide....and many more...You need to be a good student to be successful--put a lot of time and effort in to the work...Self motivated and dedicated...It's not spoon fed by any way shape or means, but EKU has taught me a lot...I am in my second year and just started my clinicals....I loved my first year! We had some really involved and caring professors...Good lectures, live sessions on line...One professor, even scheduled an online session when we wanted clarification..She was AMAZING!!! NP Grad school is tough--it's also time consuming...I know it will be worth it in 15 months!!!

Hi Vegan RN BSN! I am at EKU, started January 2015. I really like it! I'm getting ready to start my clinicals. I like the professors (we have had wonderful professors--all but maybe one grump) a lot. We have had super nice, caring, supportive, and available professors. If we wanted to have an adobe connect (live session with them), they would schedule one in the evening and people could log on and go over a difficult week (cardiology med week) and just really be there for us. I loved Pharmacology (the professor was just the best ever, I can't say enough good things about her) and I loved Health Assessment & the professor with that class....Theory and Research had the nicest professors as well and very involved with weekly adobe connects...That was a year ago and seems so long ago...Overall, I have been very pleased with the program...I start the PMHNP courses now and I can't wait. Good luck! EKU has an online group through their website and an EKU grad school group on FB....But, the email system is really a fabulous way to get in touch with peers. Reach out to the people in your group and get to know them....Email them, call them, they will be your support system--you will NEED them throughout the year for emotional and academic support...Especially in Theory or Research, sometimes a fresh pair of eyes looking over your papers can find some errors....NOW, that being said, you will hear "scholarly writing" until it's coming out of your ears...So, make sure you follow APA format TO A "T"!!!! If you do not get an "A" in Theory, it will be because you did not follow APA...So, use the SmartThinking (it's the people who review your paper and edit it and it's FREE through EKU) option...It will be on your BlackBoard under TOOLS...Good Luck!

How is going now? How was it doubling up on Research Project and Patho?

Totally appropriate for the instructor to send that. We were lined up and our instructor would smell our breath--because "No patient should have to smell your coffee breath"....We had one that carried white shoe polish if our shoes weren't clean...All tattoos had to be completely covered and no earrings, but simple studs....No fake nails allowed and nails must be short and clean...The professor was completely within her/his rights...And completely appropriate...

I went to an old fashioned hospital nursing school in Boston & BSN in Boston. We did not do IV starts. We had 24 hr IV teams (and a lot of them) in all the hospitals and most units had physician interns/residents right there 24/7. It actually was a non issue. Never had to start an IV in my life until I lived in rural Texas. Nurses can start IV's, but, only house supervisor can do PICC line start or removals. I've been a nurse almost 20 years.

Ugh! That's what happened with me for the on site program. Except I have to wait until next September 2015 and it's still not guaranteed. At least they have many start dates for the online program. I'm almost done with my app for another school for January admit. Good luck y'all!!!

Tamara seemed to respond as well. It did take a few days. I noticed they seemed to respond around 5pm. So, send your email later in the day, perhaps?
