  4. I am in the DNP program. I already have my MSN. There is no specialty focus unlike the PMHNP. Didactic portion of the classes are 8 week per class and are online. Assignments are weekly and mainly focused on preparing you to transition into a Doctorate role after graduating but the program also prepares you on how in implement EBP and evaluate outcomes. Each course is in conjunction to a piece of your capstone. I personally feel the professors are there for you, they do expect you to think at a doctorate level but they want you to succeed too! Think about it....if you succeed, it reflects back on the program, showing that they can graduate 100 percent of their enrollment. You pick your capstone project...assess a need, implement an intervention and evaluate the outcomes. I am happy so far. It is manageable while working full-time, raising a young family and still enjoying life...I am speaking for myself! I'm not shooting for straight A...just passing and passing with B and better because in the end it's all about walking across that stage and being handed my DNP degree!
  5. The sixth edition copyright 2010 is the most current one.
  6. Yes that is the book to get chemo cert. There is a 2-day course you have to take and pretty much everybody passes. If you don't, they go over the test with you and give you another test so you can pass the same day. The best way to learn chemotherapy is by doing it so it will make more sense when you are handling chemotherapy. When you start studying for the OCN cert. get the "green Core Curriculum" study guide and question book, in addition to using the chemotherapy book above.
  7. Have you looked at Eastern Kentucky University? It is completely online. You should call the online graduate office and talk to the coordinator, she will answer all your questions. Not much information on the website except for classes, tuition and such. Good luck on your search
  8. Alright I have been an oncology nurse for over 12 years. You need to get chemo therapy certifided to handle and administer chemo therapy. Most hospital will require you to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. Chemo certification is different than Oncology nurse certification. ONS is an professional organization. ONCC is a coporation that provides certification for oncology. OCN is your title once you get certifide so you would sign your name, RN, OCN. In terms of getting OCN certified, most would like for you to get certified after you are hired. Like I said I have been an oncology nurse for over 12 years, I have worked at many places, and most ask their employees to be certified at some point after hire. If it is a requirement for hiring, they are probably trying to wean out their applicants but if you show your interest, I am sure, they will pass it by. I just got OCN certified myself. I hope this helps you.
  9. I just went back too school too. None of my recommendation letters are from past professors. They can tell your a good student from your transcripts. Good luck!
  10. Actually, it has been going well for me. I am really glad I applied to this program. It's early to tell if it's going to stay like this but personally I think I made a good decision.
  11. I started the DNP program last week! So far, I have enjoyed the flexibility. My 2 girlfriends are in the FNP program. They started off with theory and had to write papers. It is manageable while working. We all work full-time and have kids. You just need to be disciplined with your readings and homework. I have delegated Friday and Saturday nights to do school work with doing some reading throughout the week. If you have specific questions, let me know.
  12. Went to school full time and worked 0.75FTE
  13. Yes! it's different from state to state too. I got my FNP in California...and worked for 2 months then took a travel position. I too loved the flexible 3-12hr schedule. Moved from state to state and ended up 4 years later in a state that in order to get license, I needed to take my national certification (in the state of Ca you don't need your ANCC to get licensed). I can use my MSN to be an educator or CNS but some position require you to have your APRN to be in these roles, some don't depend on your institution. I am stuck in between a rock and a hard plate now. I love my current employment but I need to be license as an APRN to be in an advance practice role. If I go back to my old employment, I wouldn't need to. I have decided the best thing to do is to get nationally certifided and get licensed. Now I have to take my FNP boards and since I have been out of school for almost 10 years, it's hard to study for something that you really haven't done. I have glad i did my FNP instead of any other speciality because it is more flexible and employers are more willing to hire someone with no experience. Good luck to you!
  14. here is the link AANP CE Center - Search Activities I am guessing you are a member of AANP, more than 90% of the CE are free for AANP members
  15. Sorry to hear that... I did not pass my AANP the first time either and I am going to take in again in 3 weeks. Its a bump in the road but keep your head up and stay focused. I used the AANP CE site to get my CE for free. Let me find the link and I will send it to you. There are CEs that covers all areas..assess, dx...etc..
