  1. I think that once you get your mental health in order you can do it. I received my GED. I started back to nursing school for my RN and I had a 6 month old and an 18 month old. I did it. Yeaaa!!! Now I have 5 children and I just finished my BSN, took some time, and I am applying for graduate school. Also, I have never had my GED be an issue when it came to applying for schools or jobs. Having a GED will not stop you. Only you can stop yourself. Good luck.
  2. Julie that is really inspiring. I hope I can keep some of the things you mentioned in mind for my program.
  3. Maybe set up a time to speak to some of the local midwives in your area. I live in Seattle, Washington area and we have a very large midwife population. The types of patients that seek out care from the midwives are vast. I believe that we have a large group of immigrant clients b/c they are used to low interventions in their countries so they seek care from midwives for this reason among others. There is no telling on a given day who your patient will be. Good luck
  4. Hi, I think you can do it for sure. I started my AAS degree when my first two were 6 months and 18 months old. I was 25 when I completed it. I had two more children after that. I started my BSN online but then I separated from my ex and stopped. I have a new partner and when I was pregnant with my 5th child and put on bed-rest I figured why not finish up my BSN. I just finished Oct 13th. I am in the process of applying to Midwifery schools. I am 36, my children are 16, 15, 10, 8, and 17 months old. I REALLY hope to be done by the time I am 39. I have been told by many midwifes I work with that this is fine. Good luck.
  5. I have had the same issue. I have submitted my paperwork and wondered if everything is complete. I have not heard anything. The ONLY thing that makes me feel ok is that I had the same communication issues with Georgetown and I know they are a really big name fancy school. They never returned my calls or emails. The adviser had a horrible attitude and emails were very abrupt. I did read this articles about how potential applicants used to only apply to a few schools now they are applying to schools by the teens or twenties making the process very slow for the schools.
  6. I just submitted my application...do you think they have improved any of the problems that they were having? This seems to be a complaint of many online schools.
  7. I wonder if they sell your information to Simmons?? Because I received an email and call from Simmons today saying they use the same provider as GU so if I give my permission they can access all my transcripts, references etc. On another note I called the other day and talked to another admissions adviser they said that they would have the manager call me back I still have yet to here anything....
  8. I was so jealous of everyone that wrote about their great experiences with their advisers there. She told me knew it was me calling whenever I did because of her caller ID. I can not get her on the phone at all now. I really like the layout of their program. It is unfortunate that I had to have this experience.
  9. Well, I received my rejection email on Saturday. I have tried contacting my counselor but as some other posters have stated that after submission of the application they have not seemed interested in speaking to me. Every time I would call she would seem annoyed. I was told I could find out why from her supervisor. I sent her an email asking if he could get in touch with me and she sent back a curt email saying she will send him my way. Oh well, if they are this way in admissions maybe it is a sign about the program.
  10. I worked at Madigan Army Hospital here in Tacoma, WA. It is an extremely large facility. They do have NPs. The CNMs and CRNA. You can go to go.army.com They will hire them as active duty. If you go to USAjobs and will see the job listings for civilian. Active duty is a 66P in the Army for an FNP. Sorry don't have time to look up all the MOS.
  11. I am sorry to hear that you did not get in TammyG. What did they mean exactly by "fit"? I guess they are allowed to be subjective... What other schools were you looking into?
  12. I work labor and delivery and we have a couple of nurses who are CNM or NP and work on the floor as L&D RNs.
  13. RNLady did you here anything back? What were your stats?
  14. Hi all, congrats to all that have made it into their programs and fingers crossed for the ones still waiting. Where all did you apply for NP school? Georgetown CNM/WHNP Which school is your first choice and why? It is the only one I applied to :/ What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)? CNM/WHNP What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have? My GPA in my BSN program is a 3.62 although combined with my ASN program it is ~3.0-3.1 I am worried about that. I did not take a GRE and it was not required. I did tele from 2003 until I started L&D 2007 then I did both until about 2010. 2010-current just L&D/postpartum. Have you heard back from any school(s) yet? I submitted my application on 6/08 was told about a week later they were missing one piece of paperwork. I got that in to them. Then I waited a couple of days they said they had everything and 30 minutes later they emailed and said they needed a new copy of my transcripts and a letter from my current program saying I have 3 classes left. This was yesterday 6/20...oh joy. What semester are you looking to start? Jan 2015 Online or on campus? On-line with 3 on campus visits Very nervous...wish my luck
  15. Thank you. I hope there is some good news on the horizon. I just heard from my counselor that they need another copy of my transcripts and another letter saying exactly what class I'm in now and what classes I have left. Fingers crossed.
