Where have you applied? Gotten your acceptance/rejection letter yet?

Published

Hi there! Just wanted to get to know each other some more and kind of see what everyone's plans were.

Just curious to see:

  1. Where all did you apply for NP school?
  2. Which school is your first choice and why?
  3. What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)?
  4. What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have?
  5. Have you heard back from any school(s) yet?
  6. What semester are you looking to start?
  7. Online or on campus?

Here are my answers:

  1. UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, University of Alabama. Debating applying to Duke, Vanderbilt, & NYU (I will apply to those once I get acceptance/rejection letters from the first 4, just because they are all so expensive, they would be my last choices).
  2. Chapel Hill is my first choice now - it's distinguished but still a state school so it's affordable. I currently live in Charlotte, NC, so I wouldn't be moving so far I would be leaving my family completely. Alabama is my 2nd choice. Their program would be amazing because it combines the FNP & PMHNP and it's all online, which would be fantastic.
  3. I've applied to FNP and PMHNP programs. I have a background in psychiatric emergency department and also pulmonary progressive telemetry. I would be so happy with either route, and honestly I couldn't decide myself. So I figured whatever program I got into would ultimately make the decisions for me.
  4. I have a 3.76 overall GPA with a 3.9 in nursing. My GRE wasn't outstanding, I scored a 152 on verbal, 162 on quantitative, and 4.0 on writing. I have 2 years experience.
  5. Not heard back anything yet. Most deadlines just hit, so I'm thinking by mid-April I should know something.
  6. UNC Charlotte starts in the summer, but all other programs are Fall 2014.
  7. I would honestly prefer an online curriculum, but the only online only is Alabama. The rest are combined into on-campus and distance education.

Nice to meet you all!

Specializes in ICU, Psych, ED, Tele, Progressive.

UNCNP - it's a dual program for FNP and PMHNP :)

Specializes in Geriatrics/family medicine.

good luck to you all, i currently am attending Richard Stockton College, stopped by to see what other schools are out there and if i missed something about them, i have previously been denied for George Washington and Simmons. My speciality is FNP, hope I make it to the finish line

UNCNP - dual as in it's a FNP and PMHNP dual program, which would be perfect for me because I have experience in both psych and medical nursing and I have interests in both areas, it would allow me to

practice as either NP. Pretty cool.

all the best Ashleigh:yeah:

I got my acceptance letter from Texas Woman's University (TWU) last week. I'm waiting to hear from UTA (university of Texas at Arlington), though I think I'd rather go to TWU. UTA accepted me for last fall, but with the passing away of my mom, I put that on hold

Specializes in Rehabilitation, Addiction, Psych.

Yay missdeevah! If you choose TWU we'll be classmates!

I was finally accepted to Samford and GWU. I chose GWU since they were the first to reply to me.

Specializes in neuro-surg, psych, CM/URP, CM/URP Mgr..

When do you think we will hear from UTA? I applied in January, all info was received in February. They lost one transcript and I had to resend it. I'm a bit worried! It seems really tough to get into the program. I applied to PMHNP. They told me my GRE was waived, not sure if that is good or bad for my application. I graduated nursing school 19 years ago and BSN in '99 and my grades were "meh" maybe in the 3.0 range (must've been if GRE was waived) , but, I aced my Statistics retake this winter (took it long before I went to nursing school). So, wish I could just find out and figure out my next plan! I wish TWU had a PMHNP program!!!

Ashleigh, where is UNCNP?

Specializes in Pediatrics, Public Health, Travel.

Wow good luck t everyone. I am already feeling panic and I am just now trying to decide where to apply for next year. My BSN GPA was a 3.02. I have 10 years as an RN and 3 years before that as an LPN. Currently am a school nurse and adjunct faculty for community college ADN program. Wish me luck, sounds like i'Ll need it

Specializes in ED.

@ Naturalized, are you going for DNP? I'm also GWU for DNP AGNP so looking forward to meeting folks at the orientation in August!

Hi everyone. First post on here. This thread is making me both nervous and excited about NP school. I applied to Penn State's FNP program for the fall. The director of the program told me they do a mini review in June, otherwise I would have applied for Spring 2015. Anyone else apply to this program and hear back yet? Anyone know if they send out decisions electronically or via postal mail?

I'm an 8-year army veteran--was a trauma medic with a tour overseas to Iraq 07-08. 2 years ER RN experience. I took a year of MSN coursework in Nursing Education this past year, but decided to go a different route. My GPA for MSN program is 4.0, my GPA for my undergraduate Associate Nursing program at PSU was 3.7, and my BSN (also from PSU) was 3.9. GRE's not required.
