Has anyone seen a circ go really bad? I saw one today where the doc took too much foreskin off and the skin on the shaft ended up "degloving" from the fascia underneath. A urologist had to come in and do "damage control." The people I've talked with say they've never seen anything like this happen before.
From everything I've read, adults don't need to be circ'd later in life unless there's a major problem, and often even those circs are unnessacary. What's interesting to me is why so many people claim it's much more painful for an adult. Is it because an adult can tell us about the pain? I mean, think about it. A newborn's forskin is very tight, whereas an adult's is retractable. The later sounds less painful to me!
'Course I'm not a man so I can't say! LOL
There's a group of men on the i-net who have a website that is focused on getting their foreskins back. yup... getting them back. using stretching techniques, etc. i'll have to look it up sometime. it was on a tv show i was watching on the discovery channel a few years ago!

Any quotes from the women in their lives??????
I know this post isnt a debate over circumcision, but I am going to choose to have my son circumcised and its not because I'm uneducated. I have talked this over with my husband, and I've done research online. There are benefits to circumcision. Also what has influenced my decision is that when my brother was 5 he ended up having to be circumcised...wasnt a nice experience for a 5 year old lol.
can you share why he had to be?Just curious.

I'm not exactly sure about the details. I believe there was some sort of infection. I'm not sure if my parents were told they had no choice but to consent to it, my mother did not want him circumcised at birth, so of course I dont think she wanted it done to him at 5 years old. I will have to call her to find out exactly why the problem couldnt be fixed without a circumcision.
Circumcision of newborns used to be free under many provincial health plans. When infant circumcision was delisted and a fee charged, suddenly little boys weren't being cut as often.
I think in Alberta it's running around $110 right now. Because of short stays, many are being done after discharge, so there were very few done on the unit. The board was there and one doctor would do it very infrequently.
When patients would ask whether their little guy should be cut, I'd honestly tell them to discuss it with the husband. Usually men like their sons to match. Being northern european it was never an option in our families (although in the UK in the '30's it was done as a health practice).
While I would choose to have an older child or a man be circumcised rather than an infant, simply because the older male can *rationalize* through the pain, all these stories of men "needing" to be circ'd later in life weird me out a bit. Why would a circ became necessary?
Balanitis, phimosis to name two reasons.
I've never known a man who has needed a circ later in life. You don't hear about this in places where non-circumsized is the norm, so I am somewhat skeptical that this is really medically necessary all that often.
You obviously don't work in surgery.

Wish mine would do that. If my hubby and I ever got divorced I would make sure the next one is uncirced. I find the uncirced much more attractive.
