Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
As I understood it, the child's father did NOT want to name the child "Messiah" and that's how the case made it to court in the first place. If that is indeed true, I don't think anyone's rights were trampled upon. It's a dispute that the parents could not work out between themselves, and once you involve lawyers and judges, someone is going to lose.
I read in the news article that they were having a dispute over the last name but once the judge heard the first name she ordered it changed.
I went to LPN school with a woman named Candida but everyone called her Candi. She said she was named after the song "Candida" by Tony Orlando. (Honestly don't know the song but that guy really should have done his research.)
^^^same here about the news story. In fact the father was on the local news here (Nashville area) saying it wasn't right the judge changed the boys name.

I have had teenage patients name their baby girl "Nacirema" - American spelled backwards. Also "Jesus Christian Zion" Those were his first and two middle names.
A student of my husband's this semester is "JayandJay last name is Joe. My husband asked him if he were called "Jay" and the student drew himself up to his full height and replied, "No Sir, my name is JayandJay."
Most often when people post about these legendary names, it's a second- or third-hand account (or more). They know someone who knew someone who had a co-worker who took care of the unfortunate child (or children, in the case of the Jello twins). Only occasionally does a member say they witnessed any of these names personally.
At the same time, these names have been making the rounds for so long that I wouldn't be surprised if some silly person thought it would be a cool idea to saddle their baby with one of them because they didn't understand the difference between famous and infamous.
I'm guess that at least 95% of the accounts mentioning L-a, Nosmoking, Chlamydia, and all their little pals are either outright lies or misinformed mistakes.
I have personally seen twins named Lemonjello and Oranjello in my unit . Also took care of a Cluster Fluck.
The ones I have seen are Sighless (spelled just like that), Sha'Dynasty (shady nasty) and Cash Monae.
Had two brothers brought in with mom and their names were Titus and Odin. Not weird by any means, but just awesome! They were both such, funny little boys too! Great characters.
Also had a Saoirse--Boy (Seer-sha)
Not uncommon here in the UK however it's an Irish GIRLS name!
Ditto Siobhan (Shiv-on), Caiomhe (Kee-va), Niamh (Neev), Aisling (Ashling), Aoife (Eva).
When caring for couplets, I always ask mom what they named the baby. This girl (age 14) that I was caring for gave birth to first son. When I asked her what she named him she said RJ. I said "Is he a junior or is that short for something?" She looked at me like I was crazy and she said "no, his name is spelled Ar'jahe". I said "and its pronounced RJ as in the letter "R" and the letter "J". She said yes. I proceeded on with my assessment and left the room completely baffled!
I'm a postpartum nurse. During the night, we check in the triages and escort them to L&D. While taking a young lady and her SO down to their room, I commented on her name, "Porsche," and said what a nice, unusual name it was. (Anyone remember Julius Cesar? There's a female character named 'Portia' in that play.) After my compliment, the SO says "Tell her what we're gonna name the baby, honey." So I turned to her, and she says with the sweetest smile, "Cayenne. So we'll have Porche Cayenne."
I wonder.......if they have another baby, if they'll name that one Boxter?

The name is bad enough...but her SON??? That is absolutely a girl name (not that it is a name!)
