Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
Just read a story on the Internet where a judge changed a 7 month old name from Messiah to Martin. The judge said there is only one Messiah.Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
Yes and the judge obviously never heard of separation of church and state...sick to think that she is actually enforcing"upholding" law in this country!
I don't even hate the name Messiah. Better than some of the crap you all have posted!!
I personally would not choose the name Messiah for my child. Messiah is the Hebrew word meaning "anointed one" Just as I wouldn't name my child Christ as it is the Greek word meaning "anointed one." However, I do like the name Christian, Christopher, Christine, etc. So I'm not sure what the big deal is with Messiah. I do think that if Celebrities can name their kids Apple, Pilot, Rumor, North, etc. that this woman has every right to name her child Messiah. It is better than Panther, and yes Panther was a pediatric patients name in our hospital.
I do think the judge trampled on this families rights and freedoms.

I agree, and so does the ACLU (a phrase I cannot remember using before!)
ACLU's argument mentions the same names derived from Christ you have.
That "Judge" gives all the other hillbillies in Tennessee a bad name!
Had a boy just the other night named Diamond.
I went to school with a guy named Diamond.
My distant cousin and his wife named their children Summer, Autumn, Winter, Hunter and Forrest. Summer was born in winter, Autumn and Winter were born in the summer. Hunter, their son, is the meekest, quietest child ever who wouldn't kill a fly and Forrest detests the outdoors and much prefers to be inside because he has horrid allergies, hahahaha.
I also went to school with twin girls Melody and Harmony.
I went to school with someone named Asma (pronounced almost exactly like the respiratory affliction Asthma). Of course, this person was of Middle Eastern descent, so it was a normal name in that culture.
While watching an episode of the game show The Price Is Right many moons ago, I saw a female contestant named Coma.
My friend's fiance is a guy named Marquis. I also know a female named Marquis. To be honest, I cannot stand that name.Had a boy just the other night named Diamond.
There is a family with children named Storm, Tempest, Rage. They are all in counseling for defiance, angry outbursts, etc.
I've seen some ridiculous names in families like...Toshiba, Sony and Magna Vox. I kid you not. The children were adopted later in life and were eager to change their names.
I'll have to think of the others.
While attending an LPN-to-RN bridge program several years ago, one of my classmates was a female named Stormy. There is a family with children named Storm, Tempest, Rage. They are all in counseling for defiance, angry outbursts, etc.

My cousin's three youngest daughters' middle names are Storm, Rain and Breeze...the first two have the first names of Summer and Autumn.

I went to school (high school) with a girl named Stormy. At first I thought it was an odd name, but then in time it sort of grew on me. My high school was full of some non-traditional names (Diamond, Stormy, etc)

I went to school with an Asma too. She was from Kashmir.
My cousin named her daughter Eternity Ann Beyonne. No lie. Every time I hear her name I think of Toy Story "To Infinity and Beyond"
