Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
I just remembered a Spanish Interpreter I used to to work with... Her name was Areola. I believe she was from Columbia. But, I think it means the same in Spanish as it does in English.
I was at the park with my son when I heard a mom calling for her daughter, Malaria.
I've heard Female before. "The hospital named her."
A peds nurse friend of mine cared for a Le-A, pronounced LeDASHah.
Used to work for a guy named Richard Key who insisted we call him Dick (the guy was 150 years old). A few of my coworkers couldn't bring themselves to do it.
I'm not an L&D nurse (yet!) but I work in a clinic and one of the names that made me crazy was Alexxzandria. Also, a friend of ours swears up and down that when he worked in a bank a woman came in to open an account and when she handed him her ID it said her name was Shithead. He said he busted out laughing and asked her who put her up to it. She was not amused, as it was her actual name. She got major attitude with him and informed him that her name was Shi-THEED. And she really did want a checking account.
I had a Jada'Kiss one time...like the rapper from the 90s lol
But I think the worst ones have been ones that start with "My"... Mai Angelle (My Angel) and My King...two different families. Talk about selfish. It's not about you, parents. Ugh.
I have seen several Precious but the ones that take the cake are a set of sisters with near-identical names. I'll alter them for privacy issues, but their names are RoytitleNormalname, example QueenAngela and QueenAndrea. Yep, one word but the appropriate letters are capitalized, and both girls have the same "royal" part of the name and the "normal" part is only 2 letters different. They're not twins, either, but are several years apart in age.

Why? Just why?
Two celebrity baby names I heard many years ago, "Inspector Gadget" and "Pilot Inspector". Those name makes other celebrity baby names like Blue Ivy and North West seem ordinary.

My son has a friend named "Blue" with the middle name of "Tractor". The sad thing is he's a little dude and will be pushed around for years because of it.
When my parents named me for my dad's Grandmother they changed the spelling from the Dutch Katharine to the more usual Katherine so my future life wouldn't be one major hassle and continuous explanation.
What were they thinking?!
I have had teenage patients name their baby girl "Nacirema" - American spelled backwards. Also "Jesus Christian Zion" Those were his first and two middle names.
Oh no! This has got to me Nevaeh's little sister. Bound to happen. When they get older they can double date the Jello twins, with Nosmoking as chaperone. They'll go see a movie and L-a will take the tickets, and the mean usher, Shithead (really, he is) will catch them eating goodies that weren't but at the theater at a 400% markup. They'll have to go to supervisor's office, Ms. Placenta who feels inadequate since she lost her namesake around the last time she gave birth. She just feels so empty now.

Last year, my son had a classmate (a boy, mind you) named "Cylense" - pronounced "silence."
