Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
oops, his name was 'jim beam'. i must have sausage on the brain. :imbar
don't know why, but the sausage reference made me laugh!
don't think i'm too tired and silly, do you?

lol! i think that was the state i was in when i typed that!
I must say I know people with names that are just wrong like: Urethra, amnezia it's just plain wrong I tell ya.
My son also has a friend named Orion and their other childs name is Zen (short for something, I dont remember).
I got this one...
Pronouned La-Dash-A.
Spelled: L-A.
The mom replied "it ain't no silent dash!"
Delivered a baby once...mom named her Placenta.
My husband and his friends used to joke that one of them should name a future offspring "Excretia", to poke fun at all the nonsensical names of this day and age.
I had a patient who named her little girl Catellia...Yes it sounds like "Can't tell ya." When I asked her what the baby's name was she stated Catellia (of course I thought she said can't tell ya) and I said "Why?" She said no, that's her name.......I felt horrible!!!!
Ok here is one that I picked up when I worked in childcare ...There was a little girl her name on all of the paper work was La_a. No one new how to pronounce it when her mother was asked she replied very angrily "the dash aint silent".....the childs name is La(dash)a as if that is not bad enough but to spell it with a line.. or dash as she considered it.

No offense to the person who made this post, but, along with the Jell-O twins, Female, Nosmo king, and a number of other names that have curse words in them, La-a is largely an urban legend and has been mentioned at least half a dozen times in this very thread. The common denominator is that the mother speaks poor English and is angry that she has to explain the child's name.
At any rate, the name would really be La-hyphen-a.
