What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I have seen the name "Onasti" it looks like "oh nasty" but it is pronounced as "honesty". Weird!

demented old woman -- her granddaughter came to visit. granddaughter (about 6) is named "echolalia." when asked why they thought of that name, daughter says, "we'll they kept telling me mamma has echolalia and i thought it sounded real pretty."

I heard of a nurse who had to talk an entire family out of naming their child "Meconium." "It's suuuuch a pretty word", my instructor claimed they had protested...

Let's see...I have seen a Baby (first name) Girl (Middle Name), Jello and Ollej (twins), Alize (like the alcohol), my boyfriend said he knew a pair of twins that were name orangejello and some sort of other jello, and my sisters teacher told us that she knew a boy that was named member. She pronounced it a different way thinking it was a cultural word and he corrected her saying it was just member.

when my parents found out they were expecting triplets, they quickly decided on 3 boy names but couldn't agree on even one girl name. when my mom went into labor, they were still arguing/discussing.

my two brothers did not survive but had names. i was 3#, but lived -- nameless. when i went home 2 weeks later, i was still "the baby" and my parents still could not agree. my dad was still holding out for evelyn, my mom's name, while she wanted me to be abigail elizabeth and be called abby liz. my grandmas were mary and rose, but my dad had once seen a stripper whose name was mary rose so that ended that. i ended up being named katherine for my great grandma, but not katherine emmaline,as was suggested for two great grandmas. that would have been quite a combination!!
