What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

We had a Tuesday, she was born on Tuesday, but so was her twin brother and he got a perfectly normal boy name (don't remember it, but it was normal).

Actress Tuesday Weld.

Shoemocca Taiwan. My patient couldn't think of what to name her second baby. I asked her what her first baby was named. She told me "Shoemocca Taiwan." I asked her how she came up with that. She said the birth clerk came in and told her she had to have a name. "I looked down at my house shoes," she said, " and they were moccasins, so I thought of Shoemocca. Then the lady said I needed a middle name." You know what happened next, don't you?? "I looked in my shoes and it said 'Made in Taiwan', so that's her middle name"

I promise this is true!

Nevaeh is actually one of the most common names (I think it was #37 or so last year) My mom taught kindergarten last year and she had three students named that.

The best I've seen is a former classmate I had to partner with for a project. Her name was Chanel, so I wrote down "Chanel" and she looks at me and goes, "No, Chanel like the fashion designer." Um, that's how you spell it! I asked her "How do you spell it?" and she goes "CHANNEL." I didn't know whether to crack up or not, because she HAD a Chanel purse. The correct spelling is right in front of your face!!!

The LTC I'm doing clinicals at has a lady whose birth name was Candy Canes. She's really sweet, too.

Had a 14 yo mother of twins deliver one night and she told the staff that she was naming them Bert and Ernie. Of course we didn't really believe her. But when the birth certificates came back to the floor for the doctors to sign, sure enough, she'd named them Bert and Ernie. Where is the justice?? :grn:

I suppose that's better than Big Bird and Snuffleupagus.

Bit of nerd trivia: The original Bert and Ernie were the cop and the cabdriver who helped George Bailey in the much-loved Christmas movie, "It's a Wonderful Life." The Sesame Street characters were named after them.

If I see another 'Nevaeh' or 'Genesis', I think I just might run screaming. Oh... and we had a 'Bella' a few weeks ago. One of my coworkers still laughs about it. Her dog is named 'Bella Rose'. She couldn't help herself... she kept calling the baby 'Bella Rose' all night. LOL

I think I mentioned this somewhere here before, but I was in school with a girl named "Cygnette Swan" Cute, but redundant wouldn't you say?

The people who name their poor daughters Isabella and use 'Bella nickname kills me.:yeah: It so is a dog or other pet name. I personally know a bloodhound, an English bulldog, a Rat terrier and a cat named 'Bella.

People when naming your children look @ what's popular at the pound and local pet shop and steer clear of these names!:banghead:

Personally, I have never heard of an animal named Bella. When I hear Isabella, I think of the Queen of Spain.

I have a family member named Mitzie (she was named for Mitzi Gaynor), but goodness, I have heard lots of people name their dogs that.

I hate to think of how many baby girls and boys are going to be named Bella and Edward because of the Twilight books.

My dog's name is Bella, actually.

I had a patient named Channel. I pronounced it "channel" and she was very offended. She corrected me and it was in fact pronounced Chanel. I don't know what she named her baby but I hope she spelled it correctly!
