What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

Well, one day a few nurses where I use to work was talking about a patient they had that had meconeium stained fluid so everytime she spoke to the OB she would say she's got meconeium so while in the room with the patient she asked what is she going to name her baby and she said she liked the name Meconeium, and since that was what the nurse was calling her baby she though she would give the baby that name; needless to say it took her and another nurse 2 hours, a baby book and explaining to her what meconeium meant for this woman to change her mind.

Oh, personal note: My sister was named after a dream my mom had her name is Myrene; you gotta roll your "r"; poor kid has been called Myene; Miami; My Rene; and hey you!!!

Derri'erre is an inpatient at my hospitals NICU.

Just yesterday I heard the name "Colon"...not Collin..but Colon.

Specializes in acute rehab, med surg, LTC, peds, home c.

As in Colon Powell?

It's Colin Powell.

Colon is a common last name, the Hispanic version of Columbus, but as a first name? Not a great choice.

Let's home that Colon doesn't grow up to marry Meconium.

Specializes in Cardio-Pulmonary; Med-Surg; Private Duty.

Sweetpea - friend of a friend named her daughter this

Fourteen - this one I saw in an obit a few years ago, it was a man who was his mother's 14th baby. I might have started to run out of names too!

Are the parents of South American descent? I've seen that name for people of this ethnicity.

I personally did not come across this but my sister in law met a woman who named her daughter "female"......poor thing!

Specializes in Urology, Gyn, Family Practice, HBO.

I used to work with a guy who named his son Austin Scott Smith*. He didn't realize until 6 years later, when we pointed it out to him, what initals he gave him. :chuckle

*Last name changed to preseve anonymity :D

A friend of mine's little girl is named Cora Vette (pretty sure after the car, cuz her dad is a mechanic :D )

I like unusual names (both me and my kids have them, so I have to LOL)... the ones I have problem with are qualities, I guess you'd say. For example, Chastity (every Chastity I've ever known has been...well, um, less than chaste LOL).

My husband knows some people whose last name is "Seay", pronounced "C"... he said he'd name his kid "Abie" (ABC) LOL Glad our last name is fairly common, cuz my husband is a goof!

haha started by L&D rotation today, woman had two children, oldest named pete, and her new baby her and her husband named repete, no lie.
