What's the weirdest baby name?

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Okay, the lady who was in the room with me when I had my older daughter named her son Country Joe.

My hubby does social security disability and he SWEARS that he PERSONALLY has seen people named Lemonjello and Orangejello (pronounced le-mohngello and or-ahngello). I don't know.

My daughter has a friend named Orion. All I can say is that his parents were way cooler than we were!

Oh! And I took care of a lady in her 80's whose name was Lola Dimples. Can you imagine? I told her she must have been the cutest baby in the world to have been named that!!!

OK...the weirdest ones I heard....

I have been doing this for over 10 years, so I have heard of a TON of them, bot there are a couple that takes the cake.

One was a crack-addicted mother that named her preemie twin girls....Ragina and lady parts. She was SERIOUS!!!!

And another was the ones who named their baby Caramel....to go with the other kids Peppermint, CoCoa, and Praline. Definetely different!:chuckle

This thread reminded me of an email I'd sent out several years ago, so I went and dug it up. I swear to goodness, this is 100% my email, not some "urban legend" thing that got forwarded to me. I wrote this and sent it out myself:

Friends of mine just had a baby, and I was checking the hospital's online nursery to see if they had a picture up yet. What I saw at first amused, and then horrified me. Do parents hate their babies when they are born?

Honest to goodness, these are some of the names of babies born in my town in the last couple of months. Each line is ONE child, and no last names are used, so imagine adding "Smith" or "Johnson" or whatever onto the end of the each of these names to make them even LONGER than they already are.

The poor nurses in the hospital.... how one earth can they call the baby by their name w/o tripping over their tongues or laughing out loud?

How are elementary school teachers going to be able to teach these kids phonics / reading / spelling... the poor kids won't even be able to write their own names!!!

And can you imagine the poor preacher when these kids get married? "Do you.... uh.... uh..... help me out here, please!.... take this man/woman to be your lawfully wedded spouse?"

And as those of us who have mortgaged a house recently are well aware, you have to sign your full legal name about 50 times (okay, slight exaggeration... it's probably only about 25!) at the closing. I wonder if the pens will run out of ink on some of them before they get to the end of the pile of paperwork???

I have nothing against carrying on a special family name, or making your child's name a LITTLE unique -- but I don't believe that that is the case with these names. In my opinion, when you make your child's name HORRENDOUSLY unique, to the point that people can't even SAY the name, let alone spell it, you're not doing your child any favors.

i am not a nurse yet, but i can tell you two kid's names that have really blown me over (currently work in education):

(1) abcde (pronounced "ab-suh-dee") ... and believe it or not, i have seen two of them!

(2) shi'thead (pronounced "sheh-thade") ... that is just too absurd for words!!

what really irks the hell out of me is when the mothers get mad :argue: when you mispronounce the names!!

I work at the Childrens Hospital in Ohio and I have heard some dousy's: Nevaeh is the most common, it's Heaven spelled backwards, and just to name a few more; Star, Dimon, Miracle, Respect, Mersaydees, Baby, I'm to tired to think of anymore, but I have heard them all!! When I do triage I just pray I can pronounce the last name and won't have to say the first name.
