Quality Improvement
Hello all! I am working toward my MSN Admin degree and am required to do a quality improvement project in my current workplace. I'm a school nurse in a small, rural district (K-12 with about 800 students) and am struggling to come up with a topic, so I thought I'd bounce the idea off of you guys :) In the past, I've done projects over office visits (i.e. reducing unnecessary visits, etc.) and improving immunization compliance rates. Anyone have any ideas, or have examples of QI they have completed in their schools? Thanks!

I can't make this stuff up
I had a similar situation... teacher brought down 2 students on that had nearly identical linear bruises on their forearms and insides of their elbows. The teacher was freaking out thinking they had some weird contagious illness. The students swore up and down they had no idea what happened. Turned out they were hickeys from sucking on their own arms.

minor complaints
I completely understand. We've had parents blasting us on Facebook, too. I just think it's ridiculous that we, the nurses, get blamed for allowing this to happen. We can only do so much... And as long as we are following policy, we are doing our job, regardless what the parents think. Besides, unless I have lice and rubbing my head on students, it's not my fault they have it [emoji38]

minor complaints
I could have written this myself! And to top things off, our local newspaper published a front page article about lice in our district, saying we had 5 "confirmed" cases... Um, know for a fact those weren't confirmed by me or administrators because they called and we declined comment for privacy reasons. And seriously, out of nearly 800 students, I wouldn't really call 5 cases an outbreak or newsworthy. *rolls eyes*

Don't worry. With all the body fluids we encounter, they'll be colorful soon enough.

Thanks everyone, I will definitely keep you posted (I go in this week to do all the paperwork/pre-employment screening, but assuming that goes well, I start the hospital orientation/training on the 15th! I am so excited!!) RNmom6 - I am starting out on PP... I was asked in my interview if I would be okay with crosstraining in L&D and Nursery (which I was like heck yeah lol), so I am assuming sometime in the future I will be in L&D, too.- Interview next week...need advice
I think it sounds promising as well... hopefully everything will come through soon and the job will be yours :)- Interview next week...need advice
Just curious how your interview went? Good news, I hope- Finally landed an interview!!!
Absolutely!! I am sooo thankful to you all. I went over and over the info you guys gave me, to the point where I was hardly even nervous when I arrived for the interview (and if you knew me IRL, you'd know that's an amazing feat! LOL I'm like the queen of nerves! ). I think I was very lucky, too, b/c my interviewer was very laid back and we sort of just chit-chatted, which made me so much more comfortable... Thanks again everyone!- Finally landed an interview!!!
The interview went great this morning! I was basically told the job is mine, I just have to wait for HR to do their thing... I am SOOO excited!! - Finally landed an interview!!!
