EFM Certification by NCC Exam?
Anybody have any books/practice exam/online website advice for completing this exam? I already have the AWHONN 3rd & 4th Ed. Fetal Monitoring books. I am really nervous and heard that it is way harder than the NCLEX!!! Thanks!

The Cervix hunt
First don't stress it takes a LOT of checks before one gets it and then sometimes it is still hard. Start "practicing" if able on an epiduralized multip. They are usally not thinned out as much (at first) as a primip in labor. When you find it you will definitely have that "ah ha" moment:bowingpur. Also good idea about pt. that you feel are really posterior, have them sit on their fists or bedpan!

Cheat sheets
Hopefully most hospitals will help you with some review classes, precepting etc. and most of the DC/report teaching sheets are all printed out soooo nice. If you are doing L&D though I would definitely recommend a review fetal monitoring course, because the nomenclature has changed a LOT! However, those classes may also be offered FREE through hospital.

Women who don't know they're pregnant
Thanks for these stories...still can't believe it, those shows on DHC or TLC still kill me. I think most people have to be in denial, but I guess these stories are a little more credible coming from some OB professionals. When I was PG with both of mine I felt like I had a jack hammer jabbing me everywhere all the time...NOT GAS! LOL!

Need Refresher with Insulin/Mag/Pit Infusion pump setup
I recently had an insulin depend/preeclamptic pt. (which I haven't had for years) and was disagreeing with cg. in new facility about infusion/setups. She thought all could be setup on one line...Would appreciate how everyone sets these up. I think in my old facility pt had 2 separate main lines. One with insulin only on NS main line. Second line was LR? mainline (possible D5) with Pit and Mag. Any advice would be appreciated...

Anyone here who went to L&D as a new grad?
Yep - right to L&D from nursing school. Hated everything else in school. Once in a while have a few regrets about not getting any MS experience with pg pts. with "other" medical issues, but overall no. Still loving L&D after 6 years!!

Dumb Question about piggybacking ABX.
I recently had an OB Pt. with Chorio and was given order for Amp, Gent and Clinda. I haven't had to give multiple abx in a long time and couldn't remember.... Was I correct in that I can't run any of those at the same time? Thanks!
