I have worked only 14 consecutive hours, mainly because they were short, but my shifts are only 8 hours. I have worked about 13 consecutive days. But that is because they offered overtime. Now some may have 2 jobs so it may be longer. I heard some staff say if they don't work at their full time job they are at their part time job.

Had a job that was only 2 days a week, 18 hrs a day. It sounded great on paper. I envisioned being off for 5 days and living it up. Then reality hit. I slept the first 2 days and locked my keys in my car 3Xs.

Back when I first started nursing I did a couple of double shifts 16 hours. Also I've done 3 days shifts, followed by five night shifts in a row. This was 30 years ago and I needed the money to help move myself to Florida so I was motivated and young.
The last long shift I worked was a few weeks ago when I stayed 2 hours late and worked 14 hours because of a bad shift and things happening at shift change. Now I can barely do 3 12's in a row but that's all I do when I work overtime. I have worked 5 12's in a row twice the last couple of year and swear I won't do that again. LOL

Can't even imagine. I know the heat over there alone would kill me, much less trying to function in it. I am grateful for people like you that make sacrifices for the good of all the rest of us, thank you.

The most I have worked in a day is 20 hours. Then, I had to come back 4 hours later. Horrible!! I think 12 days in a row was the most I ever did.

Yeah, back in the day, I could work a double (16 hours) and feel no more weary than I might after a regular 8-hour shift. Now? Now I can still work a double once in a great while, but I feel it! I lack the endurance I once enjoyed.

I normally just do 12 hr shifts but there are occasions that I stayed maybe an hour or two late when I was a new grad to finish up on charting. But the most days I've worked consecutively I think was 10 shifts on nights. Had just moved into my house and really started with nothing when I moved. So I had multiple PRN jobs

So I work 8 hour shifts 6 one week and 5 the next week. I am often asked to do 12 and I did a sixteen hour shift last week from3 pm to 7 am the following day. While I do enjoy the money these shifts bring they take a lot out of me so I only say yes to extra hours once per week.
