What type of RN do you wanna be?

Published

I was just thinking about what type RN I would like to be and just wanted to hear from other NS to see their ideas. I think i wanna be a OR nurse or maybe labor and delivery. Just wanted to hear others thoughts :redbeathe

Specializes in IMCU.

Not peds unless I am desperate for a job.

Specializes in Emergency.

I'm starting my 4th and FINAL semester of NS in August and want to be an ER/Trauma nurse. I feel very lucky to be working as an ER tech right now (was hired after my second semester of NS) and the unit director says I'll be hired as an RN after I graduate in December! :bowingpur So employed is also a HUGE plus as well!!

Great luck to all those beginning in August and all those continuing as well!!!

Specializes in Geriatrics, Med/Surg, hospice.
I hope to start off working in women's health( like an OBGYN's office) , until I get my masters degree in public health. Then, I would like to work in a community health setting that focuses on patient education and prevention ( like planned parenthood).:redbeathe

I would LOVE to work at Planned Parenthood when/if I become a NP

Specializes in Critical Care, Postpartum.

I use to work with disabled children throughout my last year in HS and first year in college. Maybe either PICU/NICU, or other Critical care unit. I'll know much better in NS or first nursing job. Eventually, end up as an NP. :redbeathe

Specializes in Private Practice- wellness center.

Right now, I think I am leaning toward pediatric oncology or midwife. I have a few friends who have sadly lost their children to cancer, and I would love to be there with these AMAZING kids. BUT...I am reserving judgement until I know more. I will not be in the nursing program for another month, and I could very well end up liking something completely different like trauma/ER or even home health care.

School nursing interests me and eventually FNP working in dermatology. I may go straight to graduate school but I haven't decided yet. I want to get school done but, at the same time, I would also like a decent paycheck and social life. I've been a student for so long! :lol2:

Specializes in Geriatrics.

I would love to work in Psych.

What about Forensic Nursing, I read it in one of my SN mags, and I found it interesting. I think I would also look into trauma flight nurse, or cardiology.. anything at this point is open for me.

Pediatrics, Oncology, or research. MAYBE midwife.

I really enjoyed my leadership rotation in ICU/CCU, think thats eventually where I will end up. But at this point I will try whatever RN postion I get hired for just for the experience.

A good one. lol

I want to do Postpartum/Mother-Baby, maybe L&D and antepartum eventually but I definetely wouldn't want that to be my first job. I'm also thinking of Pediatrics Med/Surg or Peds rehab or rehab in general (physical rehab not drug/detox/alcohol kind of rehab).

I already know I don't want to be an NP, I don't want to do any kind of management position either and I don't think I have the skin for NICU so god bless those of you who want to
