Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!

How could a basic human right like deciding if you want children or not, be an issue left to the state? Men don't go through pregnancies so they are not affected equally. The youngest c-section I ever did among teenagers was 12 years old and the mother's boyfriend had not been arrested (yet) so it wasn't a proven rape case at that point. No 12 year old should be forced to deliver a baby. It is not uncommon that young females are raped by mom's boyfriend. Please take the time out to sit through family court for a couple of days and you will see what adults are capable of doing to kids. You must live in a bubble. I don't think the constitution ever indicated that living under a theocracy was a desirable end...in fact, quite the opposite.

Religious leaders should have no voice in American political decisions. Only Catholic women are under some pressure to live their reproductive lives according to the Pope’s opinion on pregnancy. It would be nice if the church actively contributed to the healthcare and social support needed by poor women experiencing unwanted pregnancy…that support is actually minimal and based in local charity rather than commitment to the women by the leadership which so freely make statements about “murder” while they have historically marginalized single but pregnant women in our country.
I really don't have much good to say about the Catholic Church. They've been anti-abortion for decades and I doubt for them it's a political issue that is swayed by propaganda, but I can't tell you how to think.
I will say the Catholic Church provides plenty of charity care including health care. Recently they came under the wrath of Marjorie Taylor Greene for helping out the illegal immigrants that Texas bussed to Washington.

First, about my source:
"The Law Dictionary features Black’s Law Dictionary, the trusted legal dictionary of law definitions and terms for over 100 years. The 2nd edition has over 15K legal terms for your business and research use."
The legal definition of "woman":
"All the females of the human species. All such females who have arrived at the age of puberty. "
https://thelawdictionary.org/women/
Not complex at all, is it?
Female as defined how?
Josh Hawley's answer was that this is someone who can get pregnant, which when pointed out that many people he would consider a woman may not be able to get pregnant, he narrowed down to someone with a uterus, so women who've had hysterectomies are no longer legally women?
Ted Cruz's answer, people with an XX chromosome, was probably the most useful, but still not a reliable indicator of what a woman or female is by those who use Hawley's answer since there are a variety of chromosomal abnormalities that result in people we would otherwise call female having an XY chromosome, as well as those we would generally see as male with an XX chromosome.

Not to mention that it's very likely a female Associate Supreme Court Justice will be on the side of reversing Roe vs. Wade.
I've made the argument before (although me participating in abortion conversations is something I don't like to do) that it isn't just "old white men" telling women what to do with their bodies. I guess perhaps because I know it's a singular issue for a lot of women in how they vote, and there are women out there on the front lines protesting abortion.
I think because the overwhelming majority of people making these laws are men makes it murky for people and it isn't just propaganda because there is some truth to it. In Mississippi where this was generated the Attorney General is female but otherwise the top government positions are held by men. In their state legislature 25 of the 172 seats are held by women.

Liberals constantly rail against old white men making decisions on behalf of women. Yet that is exactly who codified Roe. No complaints of old white men there.

You and I have similar, complicated thoughts about the Catholic Church, I suspect. No I don’t think that the Pope’s abortion stance is political in the American political propaganda sense of political. The politics of religion predate our politics considerably.
I agree that the Church is very charitable in some areas. I think, however, that some Catholic charity is local or regional (funded by local faithful rather than the deeper pockets) and that services/support for young/poor/vulnerable women in need of reproductive health care is an example.
MTG is an example of something else.

Even though I abhor the Catholic church getting involved in politics, I did leave Catholic Charities money in my will because they provided the bulk of mental health therapy for the nurses in our peer assistance program who weren't working and yet had therapy obligations to get their license back. It's not just Catholics anymore but most religious fundamentalists who rely on scripture rather than ethics for guidance. It's not coincidental that 6 of the justices on SCOTUS are Catholic. The Federalist society made sure of that.

I don't think that there were 6 Catholics on that court. Nor were they on the far end of their political spectrums. We used to get surprises!

Almost all charity was done by religious organizations until the government stepped in. Charities are better able to target the kind of resources that are needed while being fiscally responsible.

So now old white men are different? People sure were surprised when the Politico article came out.

It's too bad TMB vanished just before you came along. You sound a lot alike, and probably have a lot in common. ?
