Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!

Lame.
Covid doesn't kill kids.
Checking and balancing the progressives who want go crazy with gun regulations doesn't mean they want kids being hurt by guns.
And, neither one has to do with this issue.
I believe Chicago has very strict gun laws.

COVID doesn't kill kids? Really? I have trouble believing that. Who is your source on that? Dr. Ladapo?
And I never said gun regulations are the only means of reducing the number of gun deaths of children.
This issue is about sheltering children from the terrors of Common Core, being nice to each other, and learning about racism. And I am saying more children have died from gun violence and COVID than what is written in their textbooks.

But no politician, especially Republican politicians are going to support anything that may upset their voters, whether it's true or not.

I'm thinking because they weren't immediately forthcoming with examples and made a blanket statement, those examples are going to be weak in the eyes of their opponents, and perhaps educators as well. But they will be in line with their beliefs.
It sounds like you believe that the people wanting to limit access to some books have an agenda and that the subject matter of the books they want to remove or limit access to conflicts with their "belief system".
Why do you think that this "belief system" is so opaque and poorly defined without clear examples?

At worst, because they are most likely racist and trans/homophobic in the guise of "parent rights".

Someone from the DeSantis camp did Tweet an example that had previously been posted from a book used elsewhere. Some question whether it was really CRT, which I get.
I could see how the questions might lead to a discussion that includes CRT. Either way, the questions do seem odd for a math textbook. I don't see what they have to do to with a algebra problem.

While it's an odd combination of topics, I'm also not sure how learning about Maya Angelou is CRT, or how it could lead to CRT, which is at least in part because I still don't think it's very clear what conservatives mean when they use the term "CRT". Too often it seems to be a way of saying they don't feel comfortable with their kids knowing about racism and racial inequality using a term that seems more palatable then saying they don't want their kids to know that racism might be bad.
20 hours ago, Beerman said:It looks like FL's "BEST" standards is what replaced Common Core, which was a failure.
Rejecting math books for going into CRT seems reasonable. Especially for younger grades. Why would a math book need to go into that, anyway?
Every course is covered by at least one book.
I'm not sure what you find to be "highly inflammatory"?
Common Core defines how proficient students should be in math and literacy, it leaves it up to the states, local government, and schools to determine how best to achieve those standards so I'm not really sure how it's "a failure".
Florida lowered the standards and renamed it in 2014, then again in 2020. Other than lower standards there's no significant differences between Common Core and the current B.E.S.T. program except that the B.E.S.T. program includes cursive proficiency as a standard, so while Florida may have the third highest rate of adult illiteracy in the nation, those that can read and write can do it in cursive.
*It's only fair to point out that literacy rates don't take into account the rate of English-as-a-Second-Language learners in the state.
You really can't make this stuff up. Tucker Carlson has said “One of the biggest stories of our lifetimes is the total collapse of testosterone levels in American men … completely changing the way people are at the most fundamental level,”
So one of the answers is his so-called "testicle tanning".
Of course, if he were really concerned about men's health, he would site the rise in obesity as the primary drive in men lowered testosterone levels.

QuoteDeSantis said he would be open to the state making public examples of the textbooks, but maintained that the content is considered “proprietary information” as publishers weigh possible appeals to the rejections.
“I would like it to be released, but I also respect the process,” DeSantis told reporters Monday.
DeSantis made a flimsy excuse.
Do you think that the worst is that they are racist and phobic or could the worst be that they are racist and phobic and triggered to action by propaganda?

You very well know I didn't mean literally. As of a few weeks ago, about 1300 in the US died of COVID. It's not a big killer of children.
Why do you think Republicans don't care about kids dying of Covid?

Well, what did you mean then that Republicans don't care about children dying from guns? What have Democrats done to show they care more?

You've lost me, as I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
And, what do you know about what's written in their textbooks about covid and gun violence?

1300 dead kids isn't a lot of dead kids? How many dead kids enough to make you concerned?

Yes, I agree. And, they kinda make a big deal of it as I doubt its the usual to put out there that they are rejecting books, so I want to see what it is they speak of.
