Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!
3 minutes ago, Tweety said:Yes, unfortunately a whole lot of people did favor freedom over mitigation of covid. This included a whole lot of republicans and businesses owners that were struggling.
But it's now 2021 and all states are open and we have the vaccine. We all have the same information.
We all have access to the same information but too many conservative citizens voluntarily avoid that information because it contradicts the partisan rhetoric that fills their preferred media content. They consider that information to be fake news or somehow suspect because that's what they've been conditioned to think.

DeSantis' use of executive mandates to force local jurisdictions and businesses to bow to his partisan approach to public health is an example of authoritarian behavior. Local school boards and businesses had to ignore the science of masking or the benefit of requiring vaccination in order to avoid the fines and penalties of disagreeing with the governor.
au·thor·I·tar·I·an
/əˌTHôrəˈterēən/
adjective
favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government...
Example, having to pay a steep fine because the governor doesn't want your business to follow public health recommendations.

I have to agree. A lot of the conservative news has been very skewed against Fauci and the vaccine. Fox News was just criticizing him the other day when I saw it a snippet. Something about saying nothing about sports events but having something to say about Sturgis. Sturgis was a known spreader event and sports events with vaccinated people outdoors has not proven to be spreader events that I've heard.
I also love when people like Tucker Carlson say "do your research" about getting vaccinated. People say "I've done my research and I'm not getting vaccinated". Really? You've done controlled studies? Interesting.

Yep.
That notion that people should question the experts and do their own research before vaccinating is an anti vaccination strategy widely targeting republican and conservative audiences. Tucker Carlson is a perfect example of an antivaxx propagandist.
Were you able to listen to any of the testimony of the facebook whistle blower this morning? I'm so glad that I used that platform in a limited fashion before stepping away entirely awhile back. Her testimony should give everyone some serious pause about the ethics of Zuckerberg's business model. IMHO

They are widely available for us all. The good news is at least for people over the age of 65 there is about 85% vaccinated.
Florida is 21rst in % of population fully vaccinated. Only 1.5% less then CA.
In numbers, over 12 million in FL are fully vaccinated.

I haven't watched much Fox in several months. But, what I do hear is more of a anti forced vaccine stance then anti vaccine. Which, is where I fall.

You don't seem to understand that we all want freedom from the govt and it's intrusiveness.
But you have to understand that big business has to be regulated because they would all poison us or enslave us given the opportunity.
Even Warren Buffet is only paying about 5% taxes because of corporate lobbying and deductibles.
Believe me in so many ways I agree with their actions because I have a serious aversion to the stupid and ignorant and would prefer that they are exploited, but I know it would eventually find its way to my backyard. It's also wrong and despite my feelings, because of democracy, be allowed to exploit or hurt lesser prepared people, even if they choose to bury their heads in the sand instead of being prepared.
Christian tenets of kindness and consideration propelled our species to the top and should always be the guiding focus of society. And I'm saying that as a science based person!

So, going back to my question that illicited Tweety's response that you replied to, shouldnt folks be able to make their own decisions?
Or, does the government know what's best for us?
3 hours ago, Tweety said:Speaking of rhetoric (fascist authoritarian policies). It does bring up the point that he is widely popular among Republicans particularly for ending the lockdown and choosing freedom over mitigation, despite his approval rating dropping during the surge when he was being a dick. He will easily win re-election should he go that route.
My home has doubled in value since I bought it 20 years ago. I want to downsize as I age but can't afford to because a downsize would be more expensive despite making profit on a sale of my home. Flood insurance is becoming a nightmare for some folks. Florida despite having lower taxes than up north is not all that. Florida is rapidly becoming unaffordable to the middle and lower classes. Particularly for renters.
I remember when I had to help my mother pay her taxes in Fla. (maybe 15 years ago) and was surprised to see a hefty ambulance tax. States get that money one way or the other. If you don't pay a state income tax, they will just get their money in the form of another tax. Overpopulation always makes life more expensive:(

When my dad died a few years back, my siblings and I got together, drank some of his liquor stock, and laughed at all of the ways my dad played the system to avoid taxes and fees and obligation beyond death in the state of Florida. He had a real "system". LOL
He was quite a character. I miss him.

As Tweety mentioned, we all have access to the same information. Why not let folks make their own decisions?
We also shouldn't forget all the business owners who suffered greatly during the pandemic. This was less severe in FL. Shouldn't that also be considered?
