What brand and model stethoscope do you have?

Bonus question: How do you wear it? ;)

Specializes in LTC/rehab, ED, med-surg.

I did the newbie for oh, about an hour my very first clinical day...since then, it's always around my neck! One of the nurses I work with has one of these:

...so I got one and tried it...works great for my heavy double-tubed sprague!

The one I carry now:

I looooove this one! Cheaper than an Ultrascope, just as cute, and super lightweight. Not to mention, the acoustics on it are amazing. I get compliments on it all the time and it stands out---people know it's mine and don't take it! :lol2: I'm planning on getting an Ultrascope as soon as I pass my boards as a little present to myself. I'll probably get the hot pink tubing with the nurse...or maybe the breast cancer ribbon...so many cute ones to choose from!!

Littmann Classic SE II, and i've worn it the lasso, newbie, consultant, and the classic II ways, whatever mode i'm in i guess!:roll

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I have the Littman electronic stethoscope in Navy Blue. I wear it with the ear pieces hanging to the right side of my neck. I always have a stethoscope around my neck. However, I always have a lab coat on too because I don't want the bare tubing on my neck - yuck.

And...I am always cleaning the stupid thing too.

Specializes in LTAC, Homehealth, Hospice Case Manager.

I have a Littmann Master Cardiology with my name & RN engraved on the bell. It was a graduation present from my dh. Because I have a fear of it "growing legs", it stays around my neck.

I have a Littman cardiology III. I wear it around my neck only when its going to be used otherwise in my pocket.;)

Littman classic II SE and i think it is awesome and i have it in my pocket unless if i have to use it then i bring it out.

Specializes in ICU, telemetry, LTAC.

I've decided the electronic Littmans are the BMW's of stethoscopes. I'd probably waste no time calling the police if someone walked off with mine, without permission. (Yeah, I lend it, but where I can see it.) The attachment I have to this thing is rivaled only by my attachment to a paycheck, a husband, and possibly my pharmacy book. Considering that I was sure I'd flunk out of nursing school in the first month when I picked up a sprague and heard two things: jack and squat, this baby has been my lifeline.

For those who use the Littman electronic, some things you may not know:

- it will kink the tubing if you constantly fold it up in a purse or bag. I do not know if it will break the tubing, as it hasn't damaged mine. But I do hang it up some now.

-it will do in place of a doppler for pedal/radial pulses. Do NOT use it with ultrasound jelly! That will take a half hour to clean off it! And it sounds a little different from a doppler but hey, it's faster and works just fine.

-example of different sounding things... when you listen for gurgley noises after NG insertion, it sounds like a harley cranking up.

Hm.. And yeah, I'd have to say I wear it "goofy" style. It's heavy but I don't care! By the way, if you have boobs at all the earpieces stick out like they're up on a shelf and catch on EVERYTHING. Fun.

Specializes in MICU/SICU.

Indy, I have the Littmann 4100 electronic, too....I agree with everything you said - it has opened up a whole new world for me, as well. I particularly enjoy the stares of doctors as they see a senior nursing student carrying one....But what do you mean by wearing it "goofy-style" ?

Specializes in MICU/SICU.

P.S. Indy: Have you caught S3 or S4 sounds, yet?

Specializes in ICU, telemetry, LTAC.

Yeah, I've caught sounds I didn't know existed otherwise. What's fun is sticking it in someone's groin to listen for a femoral bruit. (I love those little disinfectant/decontamination wipes!)

"Goofy" ... see the first post of the thread. There is a link to a page describing ways to wear the steth.

Specializes in PICU, Peds Ambulatory, Peds LTC.
I don't have a stethoscope - I have three. Yep, I know, it's bad (And I'm not even a nurse yet.) :uhoh21: quote]

:lol2:

I own a Cardiology III Littmann

Definately would recommend it!

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

Cheap, heavy weighted diaphragm. So when swung at someone it really hurts. And if it breaks it doesnt hurt the wallet.
