I know the economy stinks and some of you have jobs and some do not.
What is your splurge, when you are able?
Mine is a dolled-up coffee and a sale item at one of my favorite clothing stores.

Ok, I don't shop much. Haven't had my nails done in over a year. My last massage was 6 monthes ago with a gift certificate my mom got me 6 monthes prior to that...BUT! My darling, wonderful husband got me the BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT IN THE WORLD!!! I got a Nook and I LOVE IT. Just think, hours and hours of time spent skimming through books, right in the comfort of your own home. I so proudly told him that they even have a memory card that will hold up to (something like) 10000 books! He looked stunned and said "You already can store 1500 books in that thing, really? You need a memory card too?" ROFL! Plan on buying one after vacation!
I get a monthly leather-bound book from the 100 Greatest Books Ever Written collection from the Easton Press. I'd stopped it during nursing school, but it was the FIRST thing I wanted to resume when I graduated and got a job. Well, that and the new house with pool. I'm a permanent fixture at Lowes now. :)
When possible, I splurge on books (either from Amazon or my hometown independent bookstore - the nearest HPB is over an hour away) and more costly ingredients for recipes I like. Now, when I say costly, I'm not talking Kobe beef or truffles - I mean the occasional pound of flat-iron steak at $5/lb instead of the interminable family packs of boneless skinless chicken breasts at $1.88/lb. God, I can't wait to finish school, get a job, and actually have a little money!
piece of mind.....I try to keep a buffer of 750.00 in my checking account (I know it should be in savings) so I never have to worry about hot checks or not having enough to get something I find on sale.....
Good for you! That's smart. I've always had a buffer built into my checking account and I have never received a bill I couldn't pay.
As I have been out of school for several years, I now have several layers of buffers (checking account, savings account, and money market account, etc.) and have a lot more peace of mind than most of my friends have. During this recession, I have been able to take advantage of the low prices and redecorate my house, get a great deal on a "new" used car, etc.
Keep up the smart financial planning and you won't regret it. An emergency fund is a great thing to have.

Everything, I just bought a (cheaper end) new car. Coach purses (totally outlet 50 percent off plus). Victoria Secret lotions and sprays. Roller skates (my new pass time). Electronics, my new iphone (3g i wish it was the 4). I love to splurge but have to get a good deal.
