What is your schedule like?

I reallly want to apply to a LPN program but I am worried that it's not going to be possible with having younger children. I am 32 years old and I have a 4 year old and 6 year, the younger one will be in school full time next fall. I have a supportive husband but he leaves the house at 6am and is home at 5pm. He can rearrange his schedule a couple of days whole week. I have no family so would have to be put my kids in before school care. I've been a stay at home for 6 years so the thought to have to put them in before school care at 6:30am every morning is a little overwhelming for me.

I know every program is different but can some of you post what your weekly schedule is?

If anyone have a situation that is similar to mine and you are making it work, please please share with me your story. Nursing has been a dream of mine but I am so scared to pull the trigger.

I am about to start a CNA job so I guess that's a step in the right direction but not somewhere that I want to stay.

(Evening program is not an option for me)

Every situation is different. I do not have kids. Our schedule is as follows: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday we are in class 8am-2:30pm. Monday and Thursday this semester we are at clinical 6:40am-2:40pm. Next semester we switch to clinical Tuesday and Friday and that's the only change. Although I do not have children, I can tell you that we have people in our class who have infants. Two people in our class have 6 month olds, and we have a few more who have children under 1 year. Each situation is different, but it is possible, just gotta find the "right road" for you and your family. Good luck!

Mine is currently Monday through Friday. 2 days in class, 3 days at clinical sites. Class times are 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Clinicals start at 6:45 am and ends depending on the site. I'm employed PRN at a local hospital so my work schedule is flexible and is perfect for me in regards to school.

My first semester went like this:

Quarter one: Monday, class 1-4. Wed and Thurs class 8-10.

Quarter two: Monday clinical 6:30-11:30. Tues and Thurs class 10-12.

I had three classes this semester (I finished all my prereqs spring 2012.)

Next semester will be: Mon Wed class 8-12, Tues 10-12, and clinicals Thurs Fri 6:30-12:30.

Much busier come January!!

I have a very busy schedule....nursing school Monday from 8:30-4:00pm Spanish from 6p-9p, Tuesday and Wednesday lab 10-12 and Spanish again on Wednesday nights, Thursday nursing from 9-4pm and volunteer at UC Davis med center from 8pm-12am, Friday no school, work Saturday from 9-4pm. And I have a husband and 2 kids. Next month it changes, I have clinical's Thursday and Friday and my Thursday classes go to Wednesday and no school on Tuesday

Right now my schedule is class Tuesday and Wednesday 7:30 to 2:30 and clinical Monday Thursday and Friday. On the nights before clinical I take my daughter to my mother in laws house to spend the night so that she doesn't have to wake up early and then on the mornings I have class I take her to my mother in laws and she takes her to school since I start about an hour before they do. I am very blessed to have my mother in law!! Right now I can't really depend on my hubby because of the long crazy hours he works, but I don't complain either because he's paying all the bills and I was able to quit my job to go to school. If u want it bad...u will find a way!!

You can do it! I was a single mother of a 3 year old with very little help with my child or finances. It was the most demanding year of my life but well worth the sacrifice. My schedule was lecture 2 days a week from 0830-1530 and clinical 3 days a week from 0630-1430. My program went from July to June with 1 week off at Thanksgiving and spring break and two weeks off at Christmas. It's tough but doable.

Best of luck!!

-K

My program is considered part-time and is 19 months long. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old.

I have class every Monday and Thursday evening from 5pm-9:30pm and clinicals every other weekend. Saturdays are 7-7 and Sundays are 7-3

It changes every semester depending on class and clinical site availability, but as a senior this semester it was:

Sun/Mon- off

Tuesday- 5 week Tues. afternoon rotation

Wed. off

Thurs. -clinical 8a-2p, then class afterwards

Fri- class 8a-2

Sat- 5 week Sat. 7a-7p rotation

I worked on the days I didn't have class- Thurs-Sat were pretty long days, but nothing compared to last year. I had clinical

3x/week and had class all day Mon. Nearly came apart at the seams.

If you want it bad, enough, you will make it happen! I am 39, have 5 kids and one stepchild living with us. My hubby has a ft job plus is in the national guard. I work pt as an aide and attend an 18 month program. My schedule is 2-9:30 T/W/Th. I drop our youngest off at pre k at 12:15, so I head to school then to get an hour of studying in before class starts. My only regret is that I put this dream off so many years :(

I am currently enrolled in a one year LPN program at CTC of Lackawanna County in Scranton, Pa. My schedule is Monday-Friday 8:30am-2:30pm. My clinicals start january 30th and they are wednesday and thursday 6:30am-2:30pm. I have a 6 week old newborn boy at home and also work 30 hours a week and although it is only the first week, I am handling it quite well. As mom2many2012 said, I would follow the general rule of thumb that no matter what your life situation and schedule are, if you really want to be a nurse, you will make it happen however you have too! "You can do anything you put your mind too"

I am a newly single mom. I started prereqs when my youngest was 4. At that time I had been an at home mom for about 10 years. I only took classes when my husband was off work or the kids were in school.

Fast forward 3 years, to last year. my husband left us. I decided to continue to pursue nursing. I was accepted to a full time year long LVN program which I started 2 months ago.

I cried at the thought of leaving my kids. At the thought of putting my kids in before and after school daycare, when I had prided myself in being a present and involved mom. I used to go to every single sports game. I took my kids to and from school everyday. I cherished those times.

Being in nursing school has been a transition, for me. My school does not give us a firm schedule, except that we may be in class M-F 9-5:30. We never can tell when we will get off at 2:30 or 3 or 4. It makes me angry because I want to go pick up my kids if I can, but I have to make arrangers for someone else to get them and take them to sports because I never know my schedule.

We will start clinicals 3 days per week in less than 2 weeks. On clinical days we may have to drive to a site up to 2 hrs away. We will have to do 8 1/2 hr days starting at either 6/7am or 2/3pm.

It helps that my former mom in law will take my kids to and from school everyday. They spend the night with her often. I am thankful for her availability, But it's hard in me emotionally. I don't worry about my kids, so much, tho. I pray for them to be ok in my absence.

I try to show my face at my kids school as often as I can. I drive my kids to school most days. It's hard to squeeze in quality time with my full time school schedule. I think if I were used to being a work out of home mom it wouldn't be so hard to go to nursing school full time.

I keep telling myself that moms do this all the time and my kids won't die because I'm not around as much.

Sorry for rambling. It was a long week at school and its Friday and I'm tired. /need a margarita, lol/
