  1. I live in California and I have an LVN license and other absolutely love it. When I first got my license I worked at a nursing home and I loved taking care of the elderly. Now I work for Sutter hospital in urology. I make great money, I have free health care and I work one on one with my doctor. Plus I have great hours Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm
  2. I have a very busy schedule....nursing school Monday from 8:30-4:00pm Spanish from 6p-9p, Tuesday and Wednesday lab 10-12 and Spanish again on Wednesday nights, Thursday nursing from 9-4pm and volunteer at UC Davis med center from 8pm-12am, Friday no school, work Saturday from 9-4pm. And I have a husband and 2 kids. Next month it changes, I have clinical's Thursday and Friday and my Thursday classes go to Wednesday and no school on Tuesday
  3. I'm currently in LVN school now and A&P is very crucial to make it through the program. You have to really know it especially for pharmacology because they go back to it A LOT!!!
  4. I live in Sacramento Ca and its very expensive out here for schooling. I did a lot of research before applying. And they cheapest LVN program was 25k, but the school had a horrible pass rate. The other schools were at least 30k and that's just for an LVN. I'm always surfing the job market and they pay nurses well out here.
  5. I bought the book too and passed my carrington hesi the first try. My only problem area was math so I studied that the most. Are you trying to get into the Sacramento campus?
  6. I'm not a grad but I will be attending Carrington College In Sacramento in October. I called CSUS and they said they except credit from carrington college. It is pricey but I didn't have to take any pre reqs, and of you look at it college probably averages 20k a year anyway. There nursing program is 16 months and 40k, plus they have an 8 month RN bridge.
  7. Well it depends on where you live, I'm going to the Sacramento campus. They have a few campuses in California, just google carrington college California. It's almost 40k so it's pricey but once u become an LVN they have an RN program that's 8 months long. But if you figure college cost at least 20k a yr and the LVN program is 16 months so it's fast paced but not to fast where your hella stressed and taking a quiz or test every day. I talked to an RN student there who also got his LVN license through them and he said that the hardest part was the 2nd term, because you got pharm and medsurg. He also said that the classes are smaller so you get more one on one time with the teachers. He said that the NCLEX prep class really helped because the teacher tells you exactly how everything is.
  8. I'm not a graduated of Kaplan but I'm attending Carrington next month and feel the same way you do, why not just go for the LVN program and then take an RN bridge. It's really hard nowadays to get into a BSN program and I don't want to waste extra time.
  9. I feel that people should do what's best for them. I'm attending Carrington College and yes it's pricey but over half is covered already. Plus I don't have any pre reqs done and don't want to wait years to finish or another year to just try to get into a program.
  10. I didnt want the hassle of taking all those pre reqs and all that extra schooling just to "try" to get into the RN program so im taking the LVN program at Carrington then I'm goin back for my RN. Yes it pricey but the pass rate is good, and the time frame is good. I got right in, took my tests and passed them and there was no waiting list. They don't have a lottery and I didn't have to waste a year or 2 on pre reqs. The community college thing just isn't for me, I dont like the idea of taking all those pre reqs and hoping to get excepted into the nursing program. At least this way I can do my LVN in 16 months get a job take take maybe a semester of pre reqs for the RN program and then take the bridge at Carrington which is 8 months.
  11. Did you ever decide what LVN school your going to attend? I'm starting Carrington in October.
  12. Are you attending the LVN program at the Sac campus in October?
  13. Your post says LTC/SAC nursing, where do u work?
  14. I think that's to bad, because schools only take so many students and if your not going to take it serious don't apply. Let someone who really wants to be a nurse take that spot. I don't start until October, but I was fortunate enough to get excepted and understand its not gonna be easy. But I really want it, and that's the kind if determination people need to have in this profession. If not give your seat up to someone who does, because now they have to wait.
  15. Oh ok, I see. How long did it take you to complete your prereqs?
