  1. I tried using a flash card app but my problem is that actually writing out the flash cards manually, although time consuming, actually helps me remember the material
  2. Hello!! An LVN/LPN program being "worth it" is different for different people. For me a lot of people said your dumb why wouldnt you just go right for your RN. Well, I was accepted into my program in May 2012 and I started in december 2012. If I wanted to do an RN program I would have had to wait until fall of this year and to be honest Im done waiting. Ive wanted to be a nurse for a long time now and I really just wanted to start asap and get out into the field asap. I am also planning on ultimately becoming an NP. There is an awesome program in my city here that is LPN-BSN and then at the same school they have a lot of MSN options ( NP, Nurse Anesthetist, etc ). As long as you have a plan and a goal and you just stick with that goal who cares if you are doing it the "lomg way" or the "hard way". Its what is best for YOU! As far as jobs I know in my area it is hard to get hired as an LPN right out of school at a hospital so I will most likely work in home health or a long term facility. As far as the classes being hard, Ive never taken college nursing courses but you pretty much learn the same material except in a LPN course it is condensed into a smaller amount of time which to me is making it a little harder. In the same sense, a college level course will get into more detail simply because they have more time to spend on each lesson. As far as life as an LPN student, its the most stressful thing Ive ever done in my life but I also work 30 hours a week and have a 3 month old son to worry about so your situation might be different. Other than that though I absolutely love it, I cannot get enough of it. I wouldnt trade it for the world even though I am so stressed I want to scream sometimes but you just have to take it week by week and remember it will all be worth it :). I wish you the best in your course!
  3. Hello! I just started my LPN program in December 2012 and I just want to start off by saying I absolutely love it and cannot get enough! Anyway, my program cost $10,500 and I had to put in about $1000 prior to starting for books, clearances, stethoscope, etc
  4. We do ours at the city hospitals
  5. Congratulations! I cannot wait to hold that diploma in my hand and forget about all those things you mentioned. Especially the "select all that apply" questions!
  6. Thank you for clearing that up because I was confused myself!
  7. Thank you very much! I really like that quote, made me feel better. I have a lot riding on it as well. I also work 30 hours a week and have a 2 month old at home soooo its just a bit overwhelming but I absolutely love going to class every day and cannot wait to graduate and become a nurse!
  8. Hello! I am now 3 weeks into a 15 month ( summer off ) LPN program in my area. There are 50 students in the class and usually only about 30-35 people will graduate. For some reason this makes me very nervous despite the fact that I am actually doing good ( 88-90 average overall ). Has anyone else ever felt this way about their program? I cannot be the only one!
  9. Correct me if Im wrong, don't all nursing diagnoses have to be from the NANDA list?
  10. My instructor specifically told us DO NOT buy a care plan book because you will not be writing them as an LPN. You need to understand them absolutely, but you are not permitted to write them. At least that's here in Pa
  11. Thank you! My nursing skills instructor had told me I can find respiratory auscultation samples online and I searched and searched and could not find any from a reputable source. I had a question though. I am only 3 weeks into my program so we have only gone over the basics of vital signs. For our sim lab test we have to auscultate the 6 anterior locations and the 6 posterior locations. I am okay with the locations, but I am just not sure that congested sounds like as well as what labored sounds like. Which of these sounds would best describe those two auscultations if any? Sorry if my medical terminology isnt up to par, like I said only 3 weeks in!!
  12. I'm sure you put in a lot of time and effort and did the absolute best you could. I'm only in 2 weeks and I already found out for myself that nursing school is not easy at all, but nothing worth having comes easy! At that, I also commend you on making it through the first semester and with B's to add!
  13. I just started my program 2 weeks ago and we have a class called PVR ( practical and vocational relationships I believe it stands for ). The class teaches you test taking skills, study habits, as well as communication, nursing process, maslows etc. I'm very grateful for this class already!
  14. Hello fellow students! I am currently enrolled in an LPN program in my area. I also work at a school ( It is called Penn Foster if you've heard of it ) and we offer a medical assistant program. I was wondering just for my own knowledge what exactly is the difference between a medical assistant and a LPN. I was also wondering what exactly a medical assistant does as well as why they do not need to be licensed. Thanks guys and girls!
  15. I am currently attending a one year practical nursing program and I work part time ( 30 hours a week ) and also have a 6 week old baby boy at home. If you are really serious about becoming a nurse Im sure you would do fine going to school and working at least part time. I wish you the best!
