I had a patient the other day ask me how I was going to insert a foley since "the head is down there, wont that hurt the baby?" For the love god, people .... come on .. 2 HOLES! SERIOUSLY!

I live in a town where there is a 3% minority rate out of about 150,000 people, may be more. So I get this alot. I used to work on the M/S floor with alot of elderly patients, so it wasnt too bad, it was like...here we go again. one night I heard something similar to this from THREE different patients!

This is a new one for me... what is a "love stitch?" If it's what I'm thinking it is, ICK! Someone care to enlighten me on this one? :)
ETA: I think I got my answer about the "love stitch." And I think it was downright cruel for the MIL to ask for one for her DIL because of his son's sexual needs. And yes, HOW did she know this???
If I had just had a baby, a love stitch or any sex at all would be the furthest from my mind.

Next time, suggest he hop up on the table for his necessary "love augmentation".
Yesterday a pt, whose FOB came in with a tripod and camera, told me when he left the room whether we could arrange it so he can take the video of the birth without him having to see her lady parts during delivery. She was afraid it would kill his erection forever.
Most recently heard from a labor coach (pt's sister) on a PP M/B unit... My sister wants to know if taking Ambien is contraindicated while breastfeeding.
What about the people that want to keep their placentas? I saw a show on Discovery Health about parents eating the placenta. Now, that totally beats toes in a jar!
I heard it's pretty rich in iron and protein. Also that it's pretty common in places that are known for having high malnutrition issues, such as some places in Africa.
Also, had one pt tell me (this was 1 day p C/s) that after I'd left the room he asked her "so, you wanna do it?" What?! Needless to say, she said no. And not for a very long time afterward. Though we have walked in on people having sex on the PP floor....
