I have Manual of School Health by Lewis and Bear (already here when I took over the clinic), School Nursing by Selekman (used this in my coursework) and Depression in Children and Adolescents - Guidelines for School Practice by Desrochers and Houck (just given to me by Health Care Coordinator).
the best actual books that i found i'd reach for vs punching up the internet is Minor emergencies (available in School health catalogue) - it covers a lot of oddball things that can walk through your door and help you make decisions about how they should be treated, how to direct the parent for treatment - and the dermatology deck (also avail in SH - soooo many pictures!!!) The rest of the books on my shelf just look pretty. I'm going to eventually chuck them and reclaim the space.
I have The Merck, Grays Anatomy, the School Nurse Certification Review, various and sundry books picked up at workshops and the Calorie King..
I also inherited An American Red Cross Text Book on Home Hygiene and Care of The Sick first published in 1913! and this is the 4th edition published in 1933 with several pages of notes tucked inside. A peek into the past!
The internet (drugs.com, reliable sources, of course). I use a lot of reference sources on the internet through the National Association of School Nurses.
I am, however, shopping around for a good derm book with pictures for the many rounds of "Nurse, what is the [insert skin issue here] mean?" - Flare, thank for the recommendation on that one! Can I ask, though - do you use the pedi one or just the all encompassing one?

I have a Mosby's drug reference and the School Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice. I was wondering if there are any other reference books out there that you have found helpful to have in your office. Thanks!!
