What nursing class at your school has the most failure rate?

Hi, I'm trying to find out at different nursing schools what nursing class has the most people to fail. At my school, there is a high failure rate in med-surg I. Most people at my school do not pass med-surg I the first time.

The school I went to had a pretty high pass rate, but wasn't easy to get into. My class started with 50 students and when we graduated there were still 46 there. I think 2 of the 4 students failed the first med-surg class (med-surg 1). 1 failed the Critical Care class and 1 failed L&D (I think, can't remember).

Anyhoo, the reason my school has such a high pass rate is that it isn't the easiest to get into. With no wait list, you have to have very good grades... The interview process also requires letters of recommendation and a written, timed, exam... So, maybe that's why the pass rate is higher. Not sure, but there ya be!

nursing care of adults iv was the course that caused the most people to flunk out. the instructor does not give out handouts and does not teach by the textbook. she gives frequent exams that are all case studies. i have her in august and am nervous already as she already told us that she gives an exam the first day of class. :banghead:

Fundamentals. We lost 24 out of our 63 just in Fundamentals.

I am going into my third semester. Fundamentals we lost 26 0ut of 120 and Med Surg 1, we lost 30. Hopefully, we wont lose more than a few here and there.

Fundamentals here, too. We had to get used to NCLEX type of questions. About 1/3 of my class couldn't pass 1st semester.

In my school, the highest drop out/fail rate was the 3rd semester which was Pulmonary/L&D/Pediatrics..more than half of them failed out because of the Med-Calc exam that semester.

Gads, in my group it was Pharmacology. We had this thousand-page book we had to get through in one semester along with everything else we were doing, with major exams in it every week. WAY too much information to memorize! You just had to grit your teeth and hang on to the information until the end of the week. Thank God there was no cumulative final. Still, at least half the class failed it and had to retake it in the summer, which was even worse because they had less time to complete it in (but most took no other classes simultaneously). I think we were the guinea pigs on that one... I think they gave up that requirement in subsequent years...
